In many countries nowadays, consumers can go to a supermarket and buy food produced all over the world.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent year, there has been a significant development in the trade practices that leads to increase availability of food items from all over the world, depending upon their preferences.

Some people think it has a negative impact on the country economy. It is due to the fact there is an increasing trend of importing the food and other items rather than depending on our own local food. These practices will drastically affect the country farmers and agriculture practices.

There is another opinion some people believe it is a beneficial practice. As we are living in the global world, so the technology and the advancement should fulfill the need of the person. If a person prefer food from another country , he should be provided with it. The innovation should support the desires of a person.

I firmly believe that this is a positive development as it helps the people to find everything they want. There should be no limitation on the availability of food . There should be freedom for the selection of food.

For instance, the Muslims living in foreign countries want the halal food due to their religious belief ;Therefore, this is the responsibility of the policy makers and the government to provide them with such kind of specific food. The people living abroad want the local food of their country due to its particular taste .

The government should keep the balance between the exports and the imports of the country. It should try to make such food type in their own country. The onus lies with the law enforcement agencies to support the native farmers with special subsidies so that they cannot be affected by such practices.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the availability of global food products and taking a clear position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention the impact on local farmers and the benefits of consumer choice, these points are not fully extended with deep analysis. The example regarding halal food is relevant, but the argument could be strengthened by exploring the environmental or economic implications more thoroughly. The conclusion introduces new suggestions, such as government subsidies, which should have been integrated into the body paragraphs to support your position more effectively. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task but lacks the depth required for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, each with a central theme. However, the logical progression between sentences is sometimes disjointed. For example, the transition between the discussion of global technology and individual desire is abrupt. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often repetitive or used in a mechanical way, such as the frequent use of 'there is' or 'there should be'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow of ideas could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to show contrast or consequence more naturally. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs needs more careful planning to ensure a smoother flow of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'trade practices', 'importing', and 'subsidies'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a tendency to repeat basic words like 'food', 'country', and 'people'. There are also some minor collocation issues, such as 'make such food type' instead of 'produce such food items'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise, academic vocabulary and demonstrate a better grasp of collocations and idiomatic phrasing to convey your arguments with more sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'In recent year' (should be 'years'), 'the country economy' (should be 'the country's economy'), and 'the technology and the advancement should fulfill the need of the person' (awkward phrasing). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic errors like pluralization and possessives would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
