Student answer (Band 4.0)

It has long been a subject of discussion that In many countries nowadays, consumers can go to a supermarket and buy food produced all over the world. In my opinion, the former notion has several elements that deserve attention and I will explain by using pertinent arguments. There are a number of arguments in favour of my context. The most important one lies in the fact that people should be extra careful with their decisions. For example, according to a recent survey done by Oxford University, 45 percent of people get benefits from above mentioned notion, whereas 30 percent of people can go to a supermarket and buy food produced all over the world due to it. Hence, it is a apparent why many citizens are in favour of the above stance. Another argument in supporting the view is that governments worldwide have become more active in dealing with this situation. To illustrate, as an academic survey carried out by Australian government, 60 Percent of people gained immensely from the proposed government reforms. They improved their existing Scenario and they paved the way for a better economic future. Therefore, this will not only make people more careful and pragmatic in their approach but also lead to better living standards. From what has been discussed above, it is clear that the benefits of the given a supermarket and buy food produced all over the world significantly outweigh the drawbacks, Lastly, In my opinion, it would be wise to say that buy food produced all over the world.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to address the prompt effectively. While it mentions the topic of global food trade, the arguments provided are vague, repetitive, and lack logical connection to the question of whether this development is positive or negative. The student uses 'filler' phrases like 'the former notion' and 'above mentioned notion' without clearly defining what they refer to. The examples provided (e.g., '45 percent of people get benefits') appear fabricated and do not support a coherent argument. The position is not clearly developed, and the essay ends with an incomplete, incoherent sentence. Consequently, the response does not meet the requirements for a clear, well-supported argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks logical progression. Paragraphing is used, but the content within the paragraphs is disjointed and confusing. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and often incorrectly, such as 'the former notion' or 'in my context,' which do not link ideas effectively. The referencing is unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the writer's train of thought. The final sentence is a fragment, further disrupting the flow and coherence of the piece. The overall structure is weak, and the ideas do not build upon one another in a meaningful way.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is limited and often used inappropriately. Phrases like 'in favour of my context' and 'the given a supermarket and buy food' are grammatically incorrect and demonstrate a lack of control over word choice. The student relies on repetitive, clunky phrasing rather than using a range of vocabulary suitable for an academic essay. There is little evidence of an attempt to use less common lexical items, and the errors in collocation and word choice frequently impede the clarity of the message.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often obscure meaning. There are issues with sentence structure, such as the final sentence which is incomplete, and the misuse of articles and prepositions throughout. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are consistently faulty. Basic errors in subject-verb agreement and word order are common. The lack of control over punctuation and sentence boundaries makes the text difficult to read and significantly lowers the quality of the writing.
