Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both positive and negative aspects of global food availability. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times unclear. For instance, the argument regarding 'saving time and money on cooking gas' is not directly linked to the global nature of food, but rather to eating out. Furthermore, the essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which negatively impacts the depth of the response. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments lack the necessary detail and logical connection to the specific topic of global food trade to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is often disjointed. While some cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'In conclusion' are used, they are sometimes applied mechanically or incorrectly. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the transition from supermarket convenience to seasonal fruit availability is abrupt. The lack of logical progression between sentences makes the argument difficult to follow in places. Paragraphing is present but the internal structure of the paragraphs needs more careful planning to ensure a smooth transition of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on simple terms like 'positive', 'negative', and 'food'. There are several spelling errors, such as 'worls', 'beacause', 'somethime', 'fruite', and 'benifical'. The range of vocabulary is limited, which restricts the ability to convey complex ideas precisely. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequent errors and lack of sophisticated lexical items prevent the response from achieving a higher score. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of common words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including missing articles ('go supermarket'), incorrect verb forms ('individuals tired at work'), and run-on sentences. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the simple sentences used often contain errors in subject-verb agreement and punctuation. For example, 'local agricultural may suffer' should be 'local agriculture may suffer'. These errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, you should focus on basic sentence construction, proper use of articles, and ensuring that your verb tenses are consistent throughout the essay.
