Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given statement demonstrate the information that nowadays in many countries, consumers can go to a supermarket and buy food produced all over the world. Many people believe that it is positive development while others strongly reject this notion. In my point of view, in modern era it is positive impact for incoming generation. It will be elaborate in further paragraphs.

First of all, we discuss its positive developments.

Analyzing the statement and explaning it further, the first and foremost reason behind this view is that consumers can enjoy different types of food and drinks from different countries and cultures. For example, if you live in Pakistan you must buy Italian pasta, Turkish sweets and so on. Secondly, people can choose different products according to their tastes and budget. This gives more opportunities for consumers. Thirdly, it gives economic benefits. For example, international food trading creates more jobs such as farming, packging, retail and so on.

Now, we discuss it negative developments.

Firstly, some imported foods take a lot of days or sometimes a weeks so that's why such type of foods require refrigeration, which can reduce their taste and refreshness. Secondly, transported foods impact on environment means when food transport from others countries it uses a lot of fuel which may cause carbon emission and effect on climate change. Thirdly, imported food effect on our people lives because all these foods mostly be sold on high prices but our majority population could't afford such type of food.

In conclusion, in my opinion, it is a positive development as supermarkets and malls allow all people to buy, enjoy and consume food produced in other countries as well. Though it affects the local markets and brands, it has more advantages than its drawbacks.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, providing a clear position that the trend is positive. The ideas are relevant, covering both the benefits (variety, economic growth) and the drawbacks (environmental impact, cost). However, the development of these points is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding economic benefits is listed rather than explained in depth. While the position is consistent throughout, the essay would benefit from more detailed examples and a more nuanced exploration of the trade-offs between global trade and local sustainability to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The use of cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' helps guide the reader. However, the transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. For example, the phrase 'such type of foods' is used multiple times, which detracts from the flow. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better pronoun referencing to avoid redundancy.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'carbon emission', 'international food trading', and 'refrigeration'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'refreshness' (instead of freshness) and 'effect on our people lives' (instead of affect our lives). The range is somewhat limited, and the writer relies on basic structures and repetitive vocabulary, which prevents the essay from demonstrating the flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('The given statement demonstrate'), article usage, and tense consistency. For example, 'some imported foods take a lot of days or sometimes a weeks' contains errors in pluralization and article usage. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor slips throughout. The writer demonstrates an ability to construct complex sentences, but the frequency of errors in basic grammar limits the score, as these errors are noticeable and occasionally distract from the message.
