Student answer (Band 6.0)

The discussion around the topic that consumers in many countries buy food produced all over the world by visiting a super market is surely the one the begs the question of whether it is positive or negative development. In my perspective, I firmly believe that, it is absolutely a positive sign to buy food from different countries because it aids in consuming variety of food which is beneficial to health.

One main reason that supports my view is that each country or region produces a food material that is rich in nutrients and promotes good health; As a result, It is important to consume a every fruit or vegetable at least few times an year. Moreover, certain items cannot be produced in a particular country due to its weather and water conditions, Hence buying them through super market is a wise thing. Added to that, buying from super market greatly reduces the effort of finding the desired type of vegetables.

on the flip side, there are several arguments opposing my idea. The cost of the items is significantly increased when bought through supermarket after all the import and export taxes are levied upon them. Additionally, It really effects the local markets and vendors who prefer to sell the local items as they usually cannot afford the import costs.

Nonetheless, these cons cannot out weigh the benefits of the food that is available in the supermarket from different geographical regions. I am still inclined to believe that it is positive sign of development keeping in view of the health benefits.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that the availability of global food is a positive development. The main ideas—nutritional variety and convenience versus cost and impact on local vendors—are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'nutrients' is not supported by specific examples or deeper explanation. The essay covers all parts of the task, but the arguments lack the depth required for a higher band score. The conclusion restates the position clearly, maintaining a consistent stance throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover', 'On the flip side', and 'Nonetheless', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as the use of 'the one the begs the question' in the introduction, which is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, providing a coherent overall structure despite some minor issues with sentence-level cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'levied' and 'geographical regions'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'effects the local markets' (should be 'affects') and 'consuming variety of food' (missing an article). The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but the lack of precision and occasional errors in word formation limit the score to the 6.0 band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'the one the begs the question' (incorrect relative clause), 'consume a every fruit' (article error), and inconsistent capitalization, such as 'As a result, It is important'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary capitalization after commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score.
