Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both positive and negative aspects of global food trade. However, the development of ideas is limited and often unclear. For instance, the argument regarding Greece and Pakistani workers is difficult to follow and does not clearly link to the broader topic of global food availability. The position is stated in the introduction but lacks consistent development throughout the body paragraphs. The conclusion is also contradictory, as it suggests the development saves the environment, which contradicts the earlier argument about pollution. To improve, you should focus on clearly explaining one main idea per paragraph with relevant, logical examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'First of all', 'On the other hand'), they are often used mechanically or incorrectly. Referencing is frequently unclear, such as in the sentence 'The main positive few effect', where the meaning is obscured. The transition between ideas is abrupt, and the lack of clear logical links between sentences makes the argument difficult to follow. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate, which occasionally causes difficulty for the reader. There are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'wourld', 'econimey', 'foemer', 'vichel', 'sxpansive', 'pluted') and word choice issues (e.g., 'scince level', 'mane issur'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas precisely. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic words and practice using collocations—words that naturally go together—rather than relying on basic or misused terminology.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are often grammatically incorrect. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the ecnomye level... is increas'), article usage, and pluralisation (e.g., 'some food's'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of apostrophes and spacing. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of grammatical errors forces the reader to work harder to interpret your intended message. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tenses and plural forms.
