Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, supermarkets offer a wide range of food imported from different parts of the world. As a result, consumers can enjoy products that were once unavailable in their countries. Although this trend has a few drawbacks, I believe it is largely a positive development because it provides greater choice and strengthens global trade.

Supermarkets are available in each country of word where all the variety of food is available. People can easily access those things they need. Supermarket is a positive development in cities. Firstly it has a good benefit for consumers to reach everything from one place. They have choice to buy good things for personal use or for home which saves the time of consumer. Secondly supermarkets often, offer special discount on several imported items which saves money as well as time. Consumers can buy huge variety of items like, grocery , clothes, and other items from one place. By doing this they also can save the consumption of fuel. They also provide convenient shopping experience.

Supermarkets can contribute with economic growth by providing different jobs opportunity and increase business activities. It also help to grow small business growth by buying local products from local suppliers. Furthermore, the taxes paid by supermarkets can build a good revenue for government.

Supermarkets cover all the requirements of consumers.

This trend have positively impact and also have some negative effects on environment. By importing goods from other countries may lead to environmental problems. The fuel consumption destroy the atmosphere.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that the availability of global food in supermarkets is a positive development. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you provide reasons such as convenience, economic growth, and job creation, the discussion of the negative environmental impact is underdeveloped and lacks depth. The essay tends to list points rather than fully exploring the implications of global food trade. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported by more detailed explanation or specific examples, and maintain a more balanced structure between the positive and negative aspects mentioned.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Furthermore' to link your points. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the paragraphing is slightly disjointed, particularly in the middle section where sentences are short and choppy. The concluding paragraph is quite brief and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects back to your main thesis.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific terms like 'economic growth', 'suppliers', and 'fuel consumption'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simple, repetitive phrasing (e.g., 'good benefit', 'good revenue', 'good things'). There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'save the consumption of fuel' instead of 'reduce fuel consumption'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations to express your ideas with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('This trend have positively impact') and article usage ('in each country of word'). Some sentences are also awkwardly phrased, such as 'Supermarket is a positive development in cities'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and pluralization will help improve your accuracy.
