Student answer (Band 6.0)

Now a days, supermarkets are a good option for buyers. Some argue that buying food from retail shop that is imported from different countries is a good progress while other say it is an unfavorable aspect. I strongly believe that shopping food items from grocery store, brought from different parts of world is beneficial. In this essay I will tell why I hold this viewpoint.

One of the main reason I agree with this view is that shopping from retail shop is flexible for citizens. People can try different cuisines and experience taste of meals led from other countries. In this way, they can enjoy the food products of other nations while being in their city or town. For instance, Someone from UK can go to local retail shop and buy the mangoes imported from Pakistan. Hence, individuals can enjoy food items brought from around the world.

Another significant reason for my opinion is that many imported products have better quality than local production. Some items well grow only in specific parts of globe and bringing them to other countries will result people there to eat that food item. For example, individual from Hong Kong can buy the extra virgin olive oil that is majorly produced in Greece. In this way, people can benefit from products that are grown in some specific parts of earth.

In conclusion, grocery stores have brought major advantages for local. It can help people to try different tastes of products being brought from other nations and also helping citizens to benefit from items produced in some areas of world. In my view, retail shops have a productive impact on locals to experience food led from other nations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position that the availability of global food products is a positive development. The ideas are relevant, focusing on variety and quality. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'better quality' is asserted but not fully explained in terms of why global trade specifically ensures this. The essay covers all parts of the task, but the supporting points could be more deeply explored with more nuanced examples or a broader discussion of the implications (such as environmental impact or economic factors) to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. There is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'One of the main reason', 'Another significant reason', and 'In conclusion'. However, some of these devices are used in a slightly mechanical or repetitive way. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the phrase 'meals led from other countries', which is slightly awkward and impacts the smooth transition of ideas between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'imported', 'cuisines', and 'retail shop'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations, such as 'good progress' instead of 'positive development', 'shopping food items' instead of 'purchasing food items', and 'meals led from other countries'. These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the range and precision of the vocabulary used.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('One of the main reason', 'Some items well grow'), article misuse ('from other parts of world'), and awkward phrasing ('result people there to eat'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the frequency of these grammatical slips prevents the essay from reaching a higher band, as the control over complex structures is not yet consistent.
