Student answer (Band 5.5)

In various nations, during this contempoary time, consumers can go to malls and purchase meals processed from different part of the globe, in my opinion this is a positive development.

Firstly, this ability to buy food produced all over the world from a point place on earth helps limit unpredictable circumstances like accidents. Being able to purchase an item manufactured in another part of the world distal to the present place where its needed is a flex. For instance, an individual, who had pasta in Italy for the first time, and wish to have the Italian dish again, with the importation of foreign foods it would be easier to access pasta here in Nigeria, than booking a visa from Nigeria to Italy to have pasta, knowing that there can be unforseen circumstances.

Secondly, Its a means of developing business ideas. Individuals venture into importation and exportation of goods and products manufactured from other nations in other to keep themselves busy and empowered, rather than being less busy or unemployed. For instance, in 2019, about one hundred and eleven (111) boys from Nigeria migrated to China for the purpose of being distributors of chinese noodles which was a popular meal in the nation, these boys took the advantage to the business level.

However, irrespective of the advantages of preventing accidents or unforseen circumstances by going to the country to purchase it or developing business ideas, it still has its negatives which is the spike in price. items developed or produced in other countries are usually expensive due to clearing of goods an services.

in conclusion, i think its a posi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, but the development of ideas is inconsistent. While the first point regarding convenience is relevant, the logic is somewhat strained, particularly the claim that importing food prevents 'accidents'. The second point about business development is more relevant but lacks depth. The conclusion is incomplete, which is a significant omission that prevents a full summary of the argument. Overall, the ideas are present but often under-developed or supported by weak reasoning, placing this in the lower-mid range.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'However' to signal transitions. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is truncated, which disrupts the overall structure. The progression of ideas is sometimes difficult to follow due to awkward phrasing and logical gaps, such as the transition from the idea of 'accidents' to the example of pasta. While the essay is readable, the lack of a proper conclusion and the mechanical nature of the linking words limit the score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'contempoary time', 'point place on earth', and 'distal to the present place'. The student attempts to use more complex vocabulary, but these attempts often result in unnatural collocations. Spelling errors like 'unforseen' (unforeseen) and 'posi' (incomplete) also detract from the overall quality. To improve, the student should focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring accurate spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('Its a means', 'items... is the spike'), punctuation, and article usage. Some sentences are overly long and convoluted, which obscures the intended meaning. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable throughout the text. A greater focus on basic grammatical accuracy and sentence structure control is required to reach a higher band.
