Student answer (Band 5.5)

In a modern era, most of the countries individuals purchase food items from supermarket which are produced all over the world. This facility is responsible for both its advantages and negative impacts on the society. This essay will discuss both perspectives before explaining why i think its have more positive impacts.

As technology evolves, it makes life more convenient by providing a significant facilities in this decade. Like, now people can easily access the food produced all over the world without travelling to another area or some far places. Basic necessities are available at almost every store. Therefore customers do not face any difficulties in buying daily used food items. For example: In most of the African countries, there is a shortage of food and the soil is not good for agriculture. In response a supermarket in these areas provide these essential eating commodities by importing from other countries. In addition, in a busy schedule of most of individuals, it is not possible for them to visit different places for food satisfaction. Another advantage is that people may experience different culture spices and food.

On the other hand it may have some drawbacks. The most prominent is that developing countries often faced the problem of food shortage even though such products produced in their own state. In addition, now locals are becoming more lazy because of every essential thing is available on doorstep ultimately caused many diseases.

In my opinion, although buying almost every food items from nearby store may have some negative impacts. However, overall its a positive development which not amounted for saving time but also a source of providing various food items at one place.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the positive and negative aspects of global food trade. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the argument regarding food shortages in African countries is not fully explained, and the link between imported food and laziness is a broad generalization that lacks sufficient supporting evidence. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported by a more detailed explanation or a more logical example. The conclusion is clear, but it repeats the points made earlier without adding further insight.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'In addition,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Therefore,' to link your sentences. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'This facility is responsible for both its advantages and negative impacts,' where 'this facility' does not clearly refer to the previous sentence. Improving the variety and natural flow of your linking words will help improve the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'essential eating commodities' and 'agriculture.' However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'different culture spices' and 'not amounted for saving time.' These errors do not impede communication, but they do show a lack of precision. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more sophisticated vocabulary to express your ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('its have more positive impacts,' 'most of the countries individuals purchase'), article usage ('in a modern era'), and awkward sentence construction ('not amounted for saving time'). These errors are noticeable and occur frequently, although they do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument. Increasing your control over basic grammar and punctuation will significantly improve your score.
