Student answer (Band 6.0)

Recently, people can now purchase similar foods in different supermarkets globally. While this trend have some benefits, it can also brings some drawbacks. Personally, I believe this is a positive development because it fosters commercial business growths and reduces shipping fees for people. This essay will discuss both merit and demerit and give my opinion.

On the one hand, this reason why the ability for consumers to purchase similar food worldwide is largely negative is because of tourism . Firstly, this is because when people discovered that every products that they can purchase from their country is also available in all places they will feel reluctant to travel because one of the most significant aim of tourism is to taste special delicacies of the nation they are visiting. For instance, if a group of Nigeria students want to visit Kenya so as to explore their native foods, if they learnt that they can actually get this food in Nigeria they may cancel their trip. Furthermore, this can also affect the revenue of a country that is been generated from tourism.

On the other hand, I believe this trend is positively impactful because it will allow commercial industry to grow substantially such that larger number of people will be able to buy their products globally. Although some companies might not be able to own their manufacturing industry all over the world, they will be expected to pay for the expenses of reaching people in other places. For example, instead of people paying for shipping fee, companies will have to do that so as to be recognized globally.

In conclusion, Although when similar foods are been sold in every supermarket in the world has some drawbacks, I believe the benefit are much greater to companies and the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt but struggles with logical consistency. While you state that the development is positive, your first body paragraph argues that it is 'largely negative' due to the impact on tourism. This creates a contradiction that confuses your position. The argument regarding tourism is also somewhat tenuous, as the availability of global food is rarely the primary factor in travel decisions. To improve, ensure your supporting points align clearly with your stated position and provide more realistic, well-developed examples. The conclusion attempts to summarize, but the internal contradiction regarding the 'negative' nature of the trend weakens the overall task response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'Furthermore', which help the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the contradictory arguments mentioned above. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is slightly mechanical. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'this reason why the ability for consumers to purchase similar food worldwide is largely negative', which is syntactically awkward and makes the logical flow difficult to follow. More varied and precise linking words would improve the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'delicacies', 'substantially', and 'revenue'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'commercial business growths' (should be 'growth') and 'every products' (should be 'every product'). Some phrases are repetitive or slightly unnatural, such as 'positively impactful'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, you need to focus on more accurate collocations and pluralization rules to reach a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('this trend have', 'it can also brings'), incorrect verb forms ('a country that is been generated'), and awkward phrasing ('Although when similar foods are been sold'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction often lacks the control required for higher bands. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice constructions.
