Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt but fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you present a clear position, the arguments are underdeveloped. For instance, the point about 'wastage of money' is mentioned but not explained with sufficient depth or logical connection to the global food trade. The examples provided, such as the mention of 'harsh brown' (hash browns), are too brief and lack the necessary detail to fully support your argument. To improve, you must expand your paragraphs with more detailed explanations and relevant examples to meet the length requirement and demonstrate a more thorough exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the phrase 'subsequent body paragraphs will elucidates same' is grammatically incorrect and awkward. Transitions between ideas are sometimes abrupt, and the logical flow is hindered by the brevity of the content. While there is an attempt to use linking words like 'First and foremost' and 'However', the overall progression of ideas is limited. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, well-developed central idea that connects logically to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. There are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'time consuming' (which you use to mean 'time-saving') and 'collect it from same market'. The term 'harsh brown' is a spelling error for 'hash brown'. You rely on simple, high-frequency words, which limits your ability to express more complex ideas precisely. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary related to globalization, trade, and consumer behavior, and pay closer attention to the correct usage of collocations and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'subsequent body paragraphs will elucidates' and 'people are not travel'. Additionally, there are errors in sentence structure, such as 'To commence with food is imperative', which lacks a clear subject or proper introductory structure. You rely mostly on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
