Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this modern era customers choose supermarkets more often, rather than the small corner shops to do groceries imported from all around the world. I think it is positive development and going to discuss in this essay.
To commence with, customers nowadays going to the supermarkets for shopping, in order to buy things under the one roof. This results them to save time, as they do not need to wander on the streets for various items. For instance, supermarkets like Sainsbury and ASDA in UK offer variety of stuff at one place, consumers can purchase furniture, glassware, liquor and vegetables and many more things without going any other place. That is the reason this kind of supermarkets are first choice of the buyers.
Secondly, some countries are not able to produce such things which they have to import from another countries. For example, Singapore does not have their own farms for dairy, meat and vegetables. So they have to acquire those products from their neighbour nations, such as Australia and Malaysia are prominent producer of dairy and farming. This makes supermarkets more crucial in these kind of countries, where people can buy things even it is not produced or manufactured locally.
In conclusion, in my perspective supermarkets plays a significant role in the consumer satisfaction, because customers can do shopping at one place with enormous selection of products, as well as save time. Furthermore, shoppers are able to buys things from another countries which are not available in local market.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses the prompt by identifying the development as positive and providing reasons. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention convenience and the necessity of imports for countries like Singapore, the arguments could be extended further by discussing the broader implications, such as environmental impacts or local economic effects, to provide a more balanced and comprehensive response. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of analysis remains at a basic level, which prevents a higher score. Ensure that each paragraph fully explores the 'why' behind your points to better meet the requirements for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as in the phrase 'in these kind of countries'. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that pronouns and referencing clearly point back to the intended nouns to create a more natural and sophisticated progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'imported', 'manufactured', and 'consumer satisfaction'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward collocation or word choice, such as 'do groceries' (should be 'do the grocery shopping') and 'variety of stuff' (too informal). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and collocations, and avoid informal or vague language like 'stuff' or 'things'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('in UK', 'the supermarkets'), subject-verb agreement ('supermarkets plays'), and preposition usage ('wander on the streets'). Additionally, some sentence constructions are slightly ungrammatical, such as 'This results them to save time'. To improve, focus on mastering basic article usage and ensuring that complex sentence structures are grammatically sound. Increasing the frequency of error-free sentences will significantly improve your score in this criterion.
