Student answer (Band 5.5)

These days some people seem to argue that individuals often prefer to purchase those items who specially imported from other countires and this trend is running around the world. However, In my viewpoint this is postive development. There are certain reason of my opinion which i wish to highlight in the essay.

In the first place, it would be quite interesting to note that imported multiple items from international market can fulfill consumer demands which are hardly available in their own country. One illustration for this is that, consumers might get to receive those product and utilize them in their daily life. Another major reason of this side of the topic seem to be that, supermarkets could be able to generate huge profit margins from internationally sourced products due to huge demand of public. It might help them to store those marchants in bulk quantity and convert their wealth into twice.

Yet there is dark side to the pictures which advocates that, items that we produce from other countries do a probable damage to a country industries and agriculture sectore because if consumers rely only on imported products. It will be challanging for local manufacturing industries to survive in the market because there will be no demand for local items in the supermarkets from buyers. Therefore, Industries will shutdown eventually and unemployment ratio will escalate.

In Conclusion, I am convinced to believe that it is indeed a debatable topic which needs further analysis and discussion. However, in the light of above-discussed arguments and examples, I am quite safe to conclude that globally sourced product has more advantages as it fulfill customer needs.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the availability of global food products. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention consumer demand and profit margins, the explanations are somewhat superficial and repetitive. The conclusion is slightly contradictory; you state it is a 'positive development' in the introduction, but the conclusion labels it a 'debatable topic,' which weakens your overall position. To improve, ensure your main body paragraphs provide more specific, well-supported examples and maintain a consistent stance throughout the essay to meet the requirements for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'In the first place,' 'Another major reason,' and 'In Conclusion.' However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the logical progression is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing (e.g., 'Yet there is dark side to the pictures'). Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between the benefits and drawbacks could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used naturally will help elevate your score in this area.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'store those marchants' (likely meaning 'merchandise') and 'convert their wealth into twice.' You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle with more sophisticated academic terms. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition and to express your ideas with greater clarity and academic tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede readability. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('reasons... seem to be'), incorrect relative pronouns ('items who specially imported'), and missing articles or incorrect pluralisation ('a country industries'). While you attempt some complex sentence structures, they are often marred by errors. To reach a higher band, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles. Proofreading for these common errors will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
