Student answer (Band 6.5)
These days, consumers from most of the countries can visit grocery stores and purchase food that is produced worldwide. From my perspective, this is a positive trend because individuals get a wide range of options and this encourages local producers to compete with international products by producing high-quality cheaper products.
The first and foremost reason is that consumers get a variety of goods in supermarkets. Some food items are not produced or cultivated locally, which then promotes supermarkets to import items from other countries. By offering a huge variety of food items, consumers can easily buy food according to their preferences. For example, in Sweden, large supermarkets give plenty of options in vegetables and fruits, allowing local people to purchase these healthy food and explore food items of other nations in an efficient way.
One compelling reason is that offering a huge variety enhances competition among local producers. When local businesses observe that grocery stores have a wide range of options for similar products, this encourages them to adopt methods that help them improve the quality of local products at low cost. As a result, consumers can afford local food, making their lives comfortable. One clear example is that in developed countries, international products are available at exorbitant prices, which enable local producers to lower their cost to increase the selling of their food, allowing them to become profitable.
In conclusion, consumers have access to supermarkets where they can buy food all over the world. I believe that this is a positive change as consumers get different options for similar products and also enables local produce to produce food cheaper and high-quality.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on consumer choice and market competition. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the argument about 'competition' in the second body paragraph is very similar to the point made in the first. While the position is clear, the supporting examples, such as the mention of Sweden, are a bit generic and could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'The first and foremost reason', 'One compelling reason', and 'As a result' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally slightly mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though some transitions could be more sophisticated to improve the overall flow of the argument. The progression of ideas is consistent and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is sufficient for the task and allows for some precision. You use terms like 'exorbitant prices', 'cultivated', and 'compelling reason' effectively. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'increase the selling of their food' (better: 'increase sales') and 'local produce to produce food' (repetitive). While you attempt some less common vocabulary, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a tendency to repeat words like 'products' and 'food' frequently. Expanding your range of synonyms would help elevate the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is generally good control over grammar, and errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. For example, 'Some food items are not produced or cultivated locally, which then promotes supermarkets to import items' is a well-constructed complex sentence. However, there are occasional minor errors, such as 'purchase these healthy food' (should be 'these healthy foods') and 'enables local produce to produce' (should be 'enables local producers'). The punctuation is generally accurate, and the sentence variety is sufficient for this level.
