Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both positive and negative aspects of global food availability. However, the introduction is confusing, as it includes irrelevant text about 'modern classes' and 'bullet' points that seem to belong to a different task. While the main body paragraphs attempt to present a balanced view, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding the impact on local restaurants is mentioned but not fully explored. To improve, ensure that the introduction is focused solely on the current prompt and that each point is supported with more detailed reasoning or specific, well-explained examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and a lack of clear cohesive devices. Transitions between ideas are often mechanical or missing, such as the abrupt shift between discussing cultural value and the impact on local businesses. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to follow the progression of the argument. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'nevertheless') to connect sentences and paragraphs more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and spelling errors, such as 'supermaket', 'by' instead of 'buy', 'impack', and 'souces'. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'cultural food' and 'frozen food', the overall range is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. To improve, focus on learning collocations and synonyms for common words, and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms to ensure the intended meaning is clear.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the variety... are increasing'), incorrect verb tenses, and sentence fragments. The structure is predominantly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences, and those that are attempted often contain errors in punctuation or clause construction. For example, 'it give bad impack' should be 'it gives a bad impact'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and practicing the correct use of articles and prepositions.
