Student answer (Band 6.5)

In most of countries nowadays, people can go to a supermarket and buy food produced from all over the world. according to me it is very positive development.

On the one hand, people can enjoy different types of food without travelling to other countries. Supermarkets sell fruits, vegetables, snacks and other products from all over the world. For example, people in India can buy Italian pasta, Chinese noodles or Australian fruits. This gives people the chance to try new foods and learn about other cultures.

Another advantage is that international food trade can help farmers and businesses. When farmers can sell their products to other countries, they can earn more money. This can also create more jobs in farming, factories and transport. In addition, competition between local and foreign companies can lead to better-quality products and reasonable prices.

Sometime many people is bored from there local foods so it is good for them to taste other type of foods from all over the world.

On the other hand , there are some disadvantages. Food has to travel long distances to reach supermarkets, which can cause more pollution. Also, local farmers may have problems competing with cheaper imported food. If people buy too many foreign products, some traditional local foods may also become less popular. and also the other countries food is more expensive than their local countries foods so instead of advantages it also have some disadvantages .

In conclusion , I believe that having food from different countries in supermarkets is mostly a positive development. Although it can cause pollution and create difficulties for local farmers, the greater choice and economic benefits are more important.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that the development is positive. The ideas are relevant, covering cultural exchange and economic benefits, while also acknowledging counter-arguments regarding pollution and local competition. However, some points are slightly under-developed; for instance, the paragraph regarding the disadvantages is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth in its explanation of the economic impact on local farmers. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explored with more specific reasoning or examples rather than just listing them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Another advantage', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or awkward, such as the sentence 'Sometime many people is bored from there local foods', which feels disconnected from the preceding paragraph. Additionally, the use of punctuation around cohesive devices is occasionally inconsistent, such as the space before the comma in 'On the other hand ,'. Improving the variety and precision of linking words would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'international food trade' and 'economic benefits'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of word-choice errors or informal phrasing, such as 'according to me' instead of 'in my opinion' or 'from there local foods' (should be 'their'). To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'all over the world', which appears multiple times.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('many people is bored') and pronoun usage ('there' instead of 'their'). Punctuation errors, such as missing or misplaced commas and inconsistent capitalization, are also present. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and sentence structure variety would be highly beneficial.
