Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. The essay is incomplete, ending abruptly in the second body paragraph and lacking a proper conclusion. While the prompt is addressed, the arguments are under-developed and lack sufficient supporting evidence. The position is stated in the introduction, but the lack of completion prevents a fully developed argument. To improve, ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed with sufficient depth and that the essay is completed in full.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay shows some attempt at logical organization through the use of transition signals like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand'. However, the progression is severely hampered by the incomplete nature of the text. Paragraphing is present but the final paragraph is fragmented and does not function as a proper conclusion. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'A clear this is that Indian individuals...', which lacks grammatical cohesion and clarity. Better use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'buy food' and 'food items' are used frequently. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'international food trade' and 'availability', but the range is limited. Some word choices are awkward or imprecise, such as 'make negative growth' instead of 'have negative consequences'. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use a wider variety of synonyms and more precise collocations related to global trade and consumerism.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with sentence structure, such as the fragment 'Over the past few decades, individuals in several countries.' which lacks a main verb. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent (e.g., 'every people can not buy'). While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, they are often poorly constructed or contain errors. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be a good starting point for improvement.
