Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that global food availability is a positive development, and it outlines three main supporting ideas: economic benefits, better food choices, and a greater variety of food. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited and repetitive. For instance, the reasons given for the benefits often echo each other without deep elaboration, and the examples provided, such as "people of the China enjoy vast types of food" or a vague survey in Japan, lack specificity and strong analytical depth. The writer attempts to cover all parts of the task as required, but the arguments remain rather general and lack fully extended support. Consequently, the performance aligns best with the Band 5 descriptors, where the task is addressed, but ideas are limited and under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, showing a clear attempt at a conventional structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by mechanical and repetitive transitions like "Firstly," "Secondly," and "Finally." Cohesive devices are often used inaccurately or overused, such as in fragment sentences like "Not only economic benefits, better choice of food, but also because of various kind of food." Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall flow feels disjointed because sentences often lack smooth interlinking. While there is a basic organizational framework present, the faulty and mechanical use of cohesion places this response squarely at Band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently reusing terms like "development," "benefit," "advantage," and "food" throughout the text. There are numerous word-choice and collocation errors, such as saying "economy benefit can be consider a leading advantage" instead of "economic benefits can be considered a major advantage," and using verbs where nouns or adjectives are required ("able to choice" instead of "able to choose"). While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic message about global food trade, the range is limited and frequent errors cause noticeable strain and difficulty for the reader. This corresponds to the Band 5 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. The writer attempts some complex sentences, but these attempts are frequently faulty, leading to ungrammatical fragments and dependent clauses standing alone, such as "As increased the customer for international food." There are frequent errors in verb forms, word order, and subject-verb agreement throughout the text, for example, "food produced various part of the world" and "a survey conduct in Japan." These errors occur with high frequency and occasionally distort the intended meaning, creating difficulty for the reader. Therefore, the grammatical control reflects a Band 4.5 to 5.0 level, comfortably fitting the Band 5 criteria.
