In many countries nowadays, consumers can go to a supermarket and buy food produced all over the world.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In many countries today, supermarkets stock food from all over the world. While this trend has some drawbacks, I believe the benefits outweigh the negatives.
One major positive is increased choice and variety for consumers. People are no longer limited to seasonal and local produce. For example, someone in Lahore can buy kiwis from New Zealand, coffee from Brazil, or cheese from France year-around. It also allow people to experience food from different countries promoting cultural diversity. Moreover, this also enhances diet diversity and nutrition.
Furthermore, it does save time, and that is one of the big reasons people prefer to go to supermarket. Instead of going to different local markets or waiting for seasonal produce, you can get everything in one supermarket. Moreover, supermarkets are usually open for longer hours compared to local markets. So people, especially working people, tend to save both travel time and cooking preparation time, as they can also get to buy ready-made or imported packaging foods. Additionally, consumers can choose cheaper available products rather than staying stuck to the expensive ones. Also, supermarkets offer discounts too that attracts customers, that is beneficial for both the consumers as they can save some money, and for supermarkets too, as their sale is increased.
In conclusion, supermarkets are better nowadays as they offer convenience, variety, and reliability that traditional markets can not match. Consumers find it more feasible and convenient, as they can get all of their desired things at one place, offering time saving and efforts.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by discussing the global supermarket trend and clearly stating a position that the benefits outweigh the negatives. The main ideas, such as consumer choice, cultural diversity, and convenience, are relevant and extended with supporting explanations and examples, such as buying kiwis from New Zealand or cheese from France. However, some arguments in the second body paragraph, such as the discussion on discounts and sales, shift slightly away from the core topic of globally sourced food toward general supermarket benefits. Overall, the position is well-maintained throughout, placing the response securely in the Band 6.5 to 7.0 range.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response exhibits a clear overall progression, moving from an introduction to distinct body paragraphs focusing on variety and convenience, and concluding with a summary. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'Additionally' are used to connect ideas, though they tend to be somewhat repetitive in structure. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different facets of the argument. Referential terms like 'this trend' are generally clear, though referencing occasionally becomes slightly loose. The logical organization ensures the reader can follow the argument without difficulty, aligning well with the Band 6.5 to 7.0 criteria.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'seasonal produce', 'cultural diversity', and 'convenience'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary like 'feasible' and 'reliability'. However, there are some minor word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'imported packaging foods' instead of 'packaged imported foods' and 'their sale is increased' instead of 'their sales increase'. Despite these occasional flaws, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly, justifying a solid Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and relative clauses. There is good control over basic grammar, and many sentences are error-free. However, there are a few noticeable grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('It also allow people' instead of 'allows') and minor punctuation slips. These errors do not impede communication, and the complex structures attempted show an adequate grammatical range, fitting comfortably within the Band 6.0 descriptors.
