Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response makes an attempt to address the prompt by stating an opinion that buying food produced globally at supermarkets is a positive development. However, the development of ideas is severely hindered by severe repetition of entire sentences and paragraphs, particularly in the second and third sections. The student fails to maintain a coherent argument throughout and instead loops back to previously stated points without extending them. Furthermore, the prompt asks whether it is a positive or negative development, but the content provided consists largely of copied or repetitive phrases rather than distinct supporting arguments. Therefore, the task is only partially addressed, aligning with a band 4.5 or 5.0 performance level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The overall organisation of the essay breaks down significantly due to the repetition of a complete paragraph in the final section. While paragraphs are used, the logical progression is disrupted because the second body paragraph repeats the exact same phrasing and ideas introduced earlier, followed by random snippets of text. Cohesive devices are either missing, repetitive, or used inaccurately, such as 'To commence with' and 'To elaborate it'. Referencing is unclear and mechanical. The erratic repetition means that the information and ideas are not arranged coherently overall, placing the essay firmly in band 4.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, featuring frequent spelling and word-choice errors such as 'contemprary', 'superket', 'qualty', and 'lowest' instead of 'low'. There are multiple instances of incorrect word forms and awkward collocations, such as 'its price is very lowest'. While the student attempts some less common terms like 'private sectors' and 'community', the high frequency of lexical inaccuracies and spelling mistakes causes strain for the reader, matching the descriptors for band 4.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The writing displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences contain frequent and basic errors in punctuation, subject-verb agreement, and article usage, such as 'some individuals believe that the consumers can go to a supermarket because in supermarket provided the better quality food'. Run-on sentences and fragments are common, and the frequent repetition of grammatical errors distorts meaning in places and impedes smooth communication. This demonstrates control characteristic of band 4.0.
