Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address the prompt by stating a clear position that supermarkets are a positive development. However, the development of ideas is hampered by repetition and a lack of depth. While the writer mentions convenience, fresh food, and affordable prices, these points are not fully extended or supported with well-reasoned arguments. Furthermore, the prompt specifically asks about the global availability of food ('food produced all over the world'), which the student touches upon briefly regarding imported fruits and vegetables, but the main focus shifts towards the general benefits of supermarkets rather than the global trade aspect. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, aligning with the Band 5 descriptor where ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays some overall organization with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, but there is no clear logical progression. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as 'Commencing with most prominent reason, why it beneficial notion' and 'On the other hand, another worth considering of stores rather than food cart'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the body paragraphs contain repetitive arguments and lack clear topic sentences that guide the reader smoothly through the text. Referencing is also confusing at times, making the overall arrangement faulty and mechanical. This places the response firmly within the Band 5 descriptors for cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The lexical range is quite limited and repetitive, with frequent spelling mistakes ('prefering', 'posotive', 'alsio', 'sveral', 'avaliable', 'imoprted', 'crucical') and awkward word choices ('krayana store', 'comfortable wearing', 'abroad things'). While the student attempts some less common vocabulary items such as 'contemporary era' and 'inhabitants', inaccuracies in collocation and word formation impede clear communication in several places. The vocabulary used is just about adequate to convey the basic message, but the high frequency of errors restricts the score to Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty and ungrammatical, such as in the opening sentence: 'In this contemporary era, the way of buying foods and other essential commodities has changed over the period of time.' There are numerous punctuation and grammatical errors throughout, including missing articles, subject-verb agreement issues ('Many individuals are now prefering', 'commodities are... and also has'), and run-on sentences ('To illustrates, In India, the residents are going to supermarkets bacause...'). Because frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and accurate sentences are in the minority, a Band 5 is appropriate.
