Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the task directly by presenting a clear position that the global availability of food in supermarkets is a positive development. The writer discusses both the advantages (convenience, variety, time-saving for working individuals) and acknowledges opposing views regarding quality, cost, and impulse buying, before concluding. However, some of the supporting ideas remain somewhat under-developed and rely on generalisations rather than fully elaborated examples. For instance, the mention that 'some supermarkets even provide electronics and dresses' drifts slightly away from the specific focus on food products. Overall, the requirements of the prompt are satisfied, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor where all parts are addressed, though some ideas lack deeper elaboration.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph-by-paragraph structure that separates the introduction, the advantages, the counterarguments, and the conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to manage the flow of ideas. However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or over-used, and transitional phrases like 'Inconclusion' (which is written as a single word with a spelling error) indicate flaws in local cohesion. Referencing and logical progression between sentences occasionally feel abrupt, particularly in the third paragraph where counter-arguments are listed rapidly without smooth linking. These features place the response firmly in the Band 6 category, where cohesion can be faulty and referencing is not always completely clear.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'modernization', 'convenient', 'disadvantages', and 'monitoring'. However, there are numerous spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'bilieve' instead of believe, 'producst' instead of products, 'form' instead of from, 'elctronics' instead of electronics, 'copared' instead of compared, and 'neverthless' instead of nevertheless. While these errors do not severely impede communication because the context remains understandable, their frequency prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The vocabulary control is characteristic of Band 5, where noticeable errors exist, though the range is minimally adequate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as 'While this is a positive trend as it provide...' and 'Children especially find it entertaining...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'it provide' instead of it provides, 'Lifestyle of people have' instead of lifestyles have, 'supermarket can provide' instead of supermarkets can provide), missing articles (e.g., 'go to supermarket'), and punctuation issues. These errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader and demonstrate inconsistent control over complex structures. The overall grammatical profile aligns best with Band 5 due to the frequency of basic errors in agreement and sentence construction.
