IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In many countries nowadays, consumers can go to a supermarket and buy food produced all over the world.
Do you think this is a positive or negative development?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Now a days, in many countries consumers can go supermarket and buy food produced all over the world. They can buy every thing from supermarkets. Every out of season fruit and vegetables are available in supermarkets.
On the one hand, there are many advantages of this. consumers can go to supermarkets and has access to all the things from all over the world. We can taste different things of different countries. For example we can buy italian cheese, American sushi and mayonis of UAE etc. There is alot of other examples which we can consider. We can enjoy mangoes and apples all the year. In ancient times, we cannot enjoy mangoes and apples when its season is out. But now supermarkets help consumers to take everything from Pakistan.
Furthermore, there are some disadvantages of this. Farmers and small local businesses has lose in thier business. Because they cannot sell their fruits and vegetables on high prices. If people know that they can buy every thing out of season they absolutely will not buy from farmers at end of the season. Everything imported from abroad by planes and ships. It can increase air pollution. It consume high budget.
In conclusion, there are also some drawbacks for farmers and environment But advantages are greater than disadvantages. So we can say this is a very good option in our country that we can buy every thing from supermarkets. It can enhance our taste of different dishes of different cultures.
