Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent decade numerous countries, consumers prefer to purchase food product in supermarkets because they have various variety of food all over the world some believe that it is negative development. Whilst I completely believe that it is positive development because it gives to consumer more variety, better choice and food is available throughout the year.

First prior cause of my agreement is that supermarket provide vide range of vegetables, fruits and other food items so people have various option to buy food according to their requirement. To elaborate it, they can test other country food which are not available in their nation, so they try new flavours and enjoy foreign food test at home. For example, people in Australia can easily try Indian food such as, Gujarati dish or South Indian food in large supermarkets. Thus, allow individuals to gain more knowledge about other country food item which is positive aspect.

Second point of my strong agreement is that people do not have to depend on their crops because importing food from other countries provide seasonal item throughout the whole year. To explicate it, in some case farmers lost their crops due to heavy rainfall or other environmental causes which might be affected food resources but, because of import other country food people do not have to suffer above problem they can easily purchase food in supermarkets. For intense, recent time in Nepal heavy drought affected food resources but importing Indian food they overcome this problem.

In conclusion, supermarket plays a vital role in all over the world because it provides vide range of variety of different kind of food items which are very helpful for consumer to buy different country food.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The student addresses the task by clearly stating their position that the availability of global food in supermarkets is a positive development. Ideas are presented and supported with reasons, such as variety, nutritional diversity, and food security during local crop failures. However, some arguments lack full extension and rely on over-generalisations or repetitive logic. For instance, the example regarding Nepal provides a relevant real-world scenario, but the development remains somewhat basic. The response covers all parts of the task satisfactorily, earning a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, two body paragraphs, and conclusion logically. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as 'First prior cause', 'To elaborate it', and 'In conclusion'. However, some cohesive links are unnatural or mechanically applied, like 'To explicate it' and 'For intense', which reflects Band 6 characteristics. Referencing is generally clear, though occasional awkward transitions slightly disrupt the natural flow of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms like 'supermarkets', 'consumers', 'importing', and 'environmental causes'. There are frequent errors in word choice, form, and collocation, such as 'various variety' instead of 'wide variety', 'vide range' instead of 'wide range', and 'foreign food test' instead of 'foreign food taste'. Spelling issues and imprecise word choices place this response firmly in the Band 5.0 to 5.5 range, as communication is maintained despite noticeable lexical errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, using relative clauses and subordinate clauses such as 'Whilst I completely believe that...' and 'people do not have to depend on their crops because...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors in article usage, pluralisation, and verb forms, for example, 'In recent decade' instead of 'In recent decades', 'farmers lost' instead of 'farmers lose', and 'other country food' instead of 'other countries' food'. These errors require the reader to occasionally decode the intended meaning.
