Student answer (Band 5.5)

In todays rapidly changing world supermarkets become important part of our daily life. now a days consumers can buy any food product that is been produce around the from the supermarket in most of the countries. In my prospective the advantage outweigh the disadvantages.

First, the presence of food produce all over the gives the consumer a wide rang of choice. for example if someone wants to eat mangos or go to shop mangos from a supermarket that contains mangos species of different nations consumer can decide what mangos they can chose or get the chance to taste different varieties of mangos. Or consumers can enjoy different types of crops that can not be cultivated in their country.

Secondly, not all people can afford to visit different countries but through these imports in supermarkets people can enjoy food of different countries and cultures. They get the chance to explore the taste of different foods in their own country. for example konafa choclate became very popular in Dubai and countries have imported that chocolate so that people can enjoy that chocolate. In addition numerous coountries are manifacturing that choclate localy.

Besides from advantages it can bring several disadvantages too. it can be negative development in a way that it can reduce support for local agriculture and countries own products. For example people may not like their own localy produce stuff and prefer import products over them. Although supermarkets have both products national and international and depends on consumer choice of what they want to buy.

In conclusion, even though the drawbacks are undeniable but the advantages of supermarkets having international food products have more benefits as it brings together the taste of food of different countries and people can enjoy it from their own countries wether it is cultivated their or not.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that the advantages of global food availability outweigh the disadvantages. Ideas are extended with examples, such as the mention of mango varieties and the global popularity of 'konafa chocolate'. However, some explanations are slightly repetitive and under-developed, particularly the counter-argument regarding local agriculture, which lacks depth. The overall stance is maintained throughout, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, starting with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. Basic cohesive devices are used to signal progression (e.g., 'First', 'Secondly', 'Besides from advantages', 'In conclusion'). However, referencing is sometimes unclear, and cohesive devices can be mechanical or faulty, such as 'Besides from advantages it can bring several disadvantages too.' Paragraph transitions and internal logical flow would benefit from more varied and precise linking words.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate their main ideas about supermarkets and imported food. There are several attempts to use less common vocabulary and topic-specific terms like 'cultivated', 'agriculture', and 'international'. However, there are numerous spelling errors and inaccurate word choices throughout the text, such as 'todays', 'now a days', 'prospective' instead of perspective, 'rang' instead of range, 'chose' instead of choose, and 'manifacturing' instead of manufacturing. These errors do not seriously impede communication, placing the response at Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is weak. There are frequent punctuation and capitalization errors, missing articles, and awkward phrasing, such as 'supermarkets become important part' and 'that is been produce around the from the supermarket'. Furthermore, sentence boundary errors and run-on sentences appear frequently. While the meaning is generally recoverable, the high density of basic grammatical errors limits the score to a Band 5.0.
