Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, there is a global trend of visiting supermarkets and buying food which are produced internationally. In my opinion, it reflects a positive development of food tranportation and supply industries across the globe. Nevertheless, there are hidden partial negative developments which should not be ignored.
Nowadays, the majority of supermarkets are gaining popularity due to underlying several factors which align with the modern lifestyle. Young minds are always keen to explore different cuisines from all over the world rather then following their traditional way of diet. As a result, the ease in availibility of various ingredients become a primary catalyst for the broader mindset and healthier lifestyle of the society. Eventually, it leads to more people choosing superstores for their regular grocery shopping. The supermarket's popularity not only benefits consumer to buy food, but it also brings people from distinct culture together. For example, it is being well-said that sharing food habts and choices from different traditions can primarily connect people globally.
Though benefits of buying food from supermarkets overweighs the risk, it is essential to not ignore the hidden factors which affects the food markets unknowingly. Supermarkets can steal the opportunities from local ventors and shops which can directly affect the wholesale market of the area. Increased competiiton in the food demand and supply can negatively affect transporation and cold chain maintainence cost.
In conclusion, I believe that promoting supermarkst have several benefits of connecting different cultures and bringing them closer globally but hidden transportation cost should tken taken care of vigilantly.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position that the development is largely positive while acknowledging potential negative aspects. The introduction outlines this stance, and body paragraphs discuss reasons such as culinary exploration, cultural connection, and the counter-arguments regarding local vendors and transportation costs. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed and would benefit from deeper elaboration. For instance, the mention of 'hidden transportation cost' in the conclusion is introduced rather late without a thorough preceding discussion in the body paragraphs. Nonetheless, the core requirements of the task are adequately met, placing this response comfortably at band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at logical progression. Paragraphing is utilised to separate the introduction, the positive aspects, the drawbacks, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Nevertheless,' 'As a result,' and 'In conclusion,' although some referencing and transitions feel a bit mechanical or forced. For example, the transition 'Though benefits of buying food from supermarkets overweighs the risk' is somewhat abrupt. Furthermore, paragraph unity could be strengthened, as the connection between local vendors and cold chain maintenance in the third paragraph is slightly disjointed. Overall, organisation is evident and supports clear communication, aligning with band 6.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'primary catalyst,' 'distinct culture,' and 'vigilantly.' However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'tranportation' instead of transportation, 'availibility' instead of availability, 'habts' instead of habits, 'overweighs' instead of outweighs, 'ventors' instead of vendors, 'competiiton' instead of competition, and 'supermarkst' instead of supermarkets. Additionally, expressions like 'hidden partial negative developments' are slightly awkward in collocation. Because these errors do not impede overall communication, the lexical resource fits the band 6.0 profile.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures. There are, however, several grammatical and punctuation errors that persist throughout the essay. Examples include agreement and tense issues, such as 'food which are produced' instead of 'food which is produced', 'rather then' instead of 'rather than', 'benefits consumer' instead of 'benefits consumers', 'factors which affects' instead of 'factors which affect', and 'should tken taken care of' in the final sentence. While these errors occur regularly, the majority of simple sentences are clear and the intended meaning remains understandable, fitting the band 5.5 to 6.0 criteria well.
