Student answer (Band 5.0)
In this contemporary era, individuals have different attitudes towards food shopping. In numerous countries currently, consumers can go to a supermarket and purchase meal produced all over the world. From my perspective, I believe that this is an advantageous advancement. This essay will look at this view into more detail.
One of the primary benefits is that it is affordable. The reason behind this is that underprivileged can not go to other countries due to expenses of travelling. Thereby, they may not suffer from inferiority complex. In the shorter term, they can use their wages into other requirements. Consequently, they can explore different foods under less budget. For instance, if they want to eat Italian pasta, therefore it is freely accessible to them.
Another major perk is that it it time-saving . This is because, individuals have become work a holic which do not allow them to take a extended break from their jobs. As a result, they can easily enjoy international foods during their busy schedule. In the longer term, they may focus more on their work. For example, doctors can not take longer break from their professions because their jobs are extremely imperative for society.
In conclusion, in my opinion, I think that this is a beneficial development because it is cost-e

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt by expressing a clear position that global food availability is an advantageous development. However, the task achievement is significantly impacted by two major issues. First, the response is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence with only 214 words, which falls well short of the 250-word minimum requirement. This negative length penalty restricts the development of the ideas. Second, the supporting points—such as preventing an 'inferiority complex' among the underprivileged or focusing on workaholism—are somewhat tangential and under-developed, rather than directly tackling core economic, cultural, or environmental impacts of globalized food trade. Consequently, the ideas remain limited and partially addressed, aligning with a Band 5 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a basic structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a truncated conclusion. Ideas are organised into paragraphs around specific points, such as affordability and time-saving benefits. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition 'The reason behind this is that underprivileged can not go...' is clumsy, and the phrasing 'if they want to eat Italian pasta, therefore it is freely accessible' misuses cohesive markers by combining 'if' and 'therefore'. Furthermore, paragraphing is disrupted by the abrupt ending of the essay. Despite these flaws, the overarching arrangement remains coherent enough for the reader to follow the writer's basic line of thought, reflecting Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The lexical resource is adequate for basic communication but shows limited flexibility and range. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'contemporary era', 'advantageous advancement', and 'work a holic', but these attempts are often marred by collocation and word formation errors (e.g., writing 'work a holic' as three words, and using 'meal produced' instead of 'food produced'). There are also awkward expressions like 'under budget' instead of 'on a tighter budget' or 'within a budget'. Repetition of basic words is noticeable, and vocabulary limitations prevent precise articulation of complex ideas. These characteristics fit comfortably within the Band 5 descriptor level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional clauses and relative clauses (e.g., 'if they want to eat Italian pasta...'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Noticeable mistakes include missing articles ('that underprivileged can not go'), incorrect preposition usage ('look at this view into more detail' instead of 'in more detail'), spacing errors ('work a holic', 'cost-e'), and faulty parallelism. While some simple sentences are error-free, the high density of structural inaccuracies in complex forms pulls the overall grammatical performance down to a Band 5.
