Student answer (Band 5.5)
In most of the countries nowadays, supermarket is becoming increasingly prevalent. Consumer can go to a supermarket and buy food produced all over the world. I think this is a positive development, in the following i will give a reason to support my idea.
From my prespective, supermarkets are very helpful in this era. Now, people don't need to go away for buying food or other groceries. Supermarkets have made easy to brought different types of foods in one place. For example, in past people have to go in many shops in order to buy vegetabes or chicken. Because these food items can't be found in a single store. There are many separate shops for vegetables, chicken and other food items. It takes a lot of time of customer.
Secondly, supermarkets often provides fresh food than local shops as well as the prices of items are also comparatively less. In the place of local shops, it provides a comfortable environment forbuying food. In addition to this, there is a lot of food veriety availible in a single place. Sometimes that are not accessible in many shops. Even though, you can buy food which is produced all over the world. I think it is a great achievement that we can try diverse food types in many places.
To sum up, we should promote supermarkets instead of thinking that it is a negative development. Supermarkets play an important role in our life by providing healthy and fresh food. Although there is lack of supermarkets in pakistan, one day supermarkets become prevalent in pakistan as in other countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear positive position on supermarkets offering global food. The main ideas, such as convenience, variety, and price, are relevant and supported with explanations. However, the development tends to be somewhat repetitive and lacks depth, particularly in the third paragraph where multiple points are compressed into short sentences without deep elaboration. Furthermore, the final paragraph introduces a specific regional reference to Pakistan which feels a bit tacked on rather than fully integrated into a cohesive argument. The position is maintained throughout, but the depth of support places this performance securely at Band 6.0 according to the descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is generally coherent with a logical overarching structure, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs supporting the positive view, and concluding with a summary. Paragraphing is attempted, although the division is somewhat irregular, with the second body paragraph being overly dense and shifting between multiple ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'From my prespective', 'Secondly', and 'In addition to this', but their deployment can feel mechanical. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the third paragraph where the pronoun 'it' is used ambiguously ('In the place of local shops, it provides a comfortable environment'). Overall organisation is acceptable for a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'prevalent', 'perspective', and 'accessible'. However, there are frequent noticeable errors in word choice and morphology, such as 'Consumer' instead of 'consumers', 'brought' instead of 'bring', 'vegetabes', 'veriety', and 'availible'. Expressions like 'go away' are unnatural in this context. While communication is not impeded and the meaning remains clear throughout, the frequency of lexical inaccuracies prevents the response from reaching a higher band, making Band 5.5 a fair and accurate assessment.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over basic structures. However, grammatical errors are frequent, particularly with articles ('in past', 'in the place of'), subject-verb agreement ('supermarkets often provides'), and verb tenses ('one day supermarkets become prevalent'). Punctuation and capitalization errors also occur consistently, such as the lowercase 'i' used for the pronoun 'I' in the introduction. Although these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, they reduce the proportion of error-free sentences, aligning the performance with the descriptors for Band 5.0.
