Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, in many nations, customers can purchase imported food from a supermarket. I believe this is a positive development because people can easily taste international cuisines in their countries and it can enhance the economy of country.

Nowadays, it is quite convenient for people to buy any food product of different countries. It is a better approach because people do not need to worry about tasting international food if it is available in their own countries. This is because the majority of youngsters crave to eat imported chocolates or desserts so they can go to a supermarket and buy them. In this way, it is helpful for them to try new dishes within low budget, otherwise they have to pay for travel tickets to go to another country. For instance, in Pakistan there are various Malls and supermarkets where food items are imported by other countries such as England and China.

Furthermore, this approach is advantageous for boosting country's economy. This is because people buy and taste different dishes produced all over the world, and they pay taxes. As a result, governments maintain their economy, and it helps them to use that money on other useful things. In addition, the vast majority of tourists visit different countries and they taste variety of traditional dishes and desserts. Ultimately, they pay for these dishes that can increase the economy of country. For example, many food vloggers visit worldwide and eat different foods.

In conclusion, consumers can buy any food item from supermarkets produced worldwide. This is a positive development because people can easily taste the traditional dishes of different nations and it can also improve the financial stability of any country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position that the availability of imported food is a positive development. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as mentioning youngsters craving imported chocolates and the availability of British and Chinese food items in Pakistani supermarkets. The second body paragraph attempts to link this development to economic growth through taxation and tourism. However, some arguments, such as the claim that people paying taxes on imported food automatically leads governments to maintain and improve the economy, are somewhat generalized and under-developed. Nevertheless, all parts of the task are addressed, and a clear, consistent position is maintained throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two distinct body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Information and ideas are logically sequenced with an underlying progression from culinary accessibility to economic benefits. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'Furthermore', 'This is because', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as starting multiple sentences with 'This is because'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate main ideas, though the logical bridge between individual sentences could be smoother at times.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate their ideas clearly regarding international cuisines and economic impacts. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'financial stability', 'advantageous', and 'international cuisines', but there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'within low budget' instead of 'on a low budget' and 'visit worldwide' instead of 'travel the world'. Spelling is generally accurate, but the overall range of vocabulary remains somewhat limited and repetitive, placing the response firmly within the Band 6 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures successfully (e.g., 'consumers can go to a supermarket and buy food produced all over the world'). There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings present throughout the text, such as 'enhance the economy of country' (missing article), 'food items are imported by other countries' (preposition error, should be 'from'), and 'increase the economy of country'. Despite these errors, punctuation is generally handled well, and the mistakes rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the arguments without significant difficulty.
