Student answer (Band 5.5)

It has been observed that consumers around the world often visit a supermarket to buy food manufactured worldwide. In my opinion, it is largely a positive development because it is more convenient, time saving, and boosts economy.

Firstly, one of the significant factors why I support this stance is that people get a lot of items in same place. In other words, it enable people to buy different varieties of goods in one place, and people do not have to visit several shops. This is because supermarkets always keep all kinds of goods, which are produced world wide. This is more beneficial especially for tourists. For instance, people from various countries can get opportunities to buy products that they used to have in their countries.

Secondly, having products that are produced worldwide, in a same supermarket saves people more time. This means that when a supermarket holds all kinds of foods then consumers need not have to visit various stores to buy foods, which eventually saves time. It is more useful for professonals and business man who are more busy at their work and vendors. Moreover, with the increasing number of such supemsrkets helps to earn more income. For example, many tourists visit such stores to buy good, which helps to earn large amount of foreign currency. It also promotes the local economy as well as boosts national GDP.

In conclusion, establishment of supermarkets with foods available worldwide is largely a positive gain because it is more convinent, saves time, and also uplift nations economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt directly and takes a clear position that buying globally sourced food is a largely positive development. The writer identifies key reasons such as convenience, time-saving, and economic growth, extending these ideas with examples regarding tourists and busy professionals. However, some arguments suffer from repetition, particularly the points regarding getting multiple items in one place and saving time, which overlap significantly. While all parts of the prompt are covered, the development of ideas remains slightly superficial and could benefit from greater depth and varied supporting examples. Overall, the response meets the requirements for Band 6.0 as it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, though some are under-developed or repetitive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay presents a clear overall arrangement with a distinct introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'In other words', and 'In conclusion' are employed to guide the reader through the text, although some referencing and transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'This is because' and 'This means that'. There is a clear logical progression overall, placing the essay comfortably within Band 6.0, as ideas are generally linked together coherently despite minor flaws in cohesion management.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and topic-specific terms such as 'supermarket', 'foreign currency', and 'national GDP'. However, there are notable spelling errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, including 'manufactured' instead of 'produced' or 'grown', 'professonals', 'business man' (which should be pluralised or framed as 'businesspeople'), 'supemsrkets', and 'convinent'. These inaccuracies reflect a Band 5.5 to 6.0 level; while communication is never impeded, the frequent slip-ups in spelling and collocation prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'consumers need not have to visit various stores' and 'people from various countries can get opportunities to buy products that they used to have'. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasing choices, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the increasing number of such supemsrkets helps') and redundant verb constructions ('need not have to'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, and errors rarely impede communication, placing the grammatical control securely at a Band 6.0 level.
