Student answer (Band 5.5)

These days, people can buy the food products from the different parts of the world by visiting the supermarkets located in their own country. In my opinion, it offers a good development in many ways with some negative consequences.

In the present days, almost all countries have the stores that provide the variety of international foods. These eatable products also meet the taste and standard of people because these are imported from the original country who make them. For example, if Pakistan's supermarkets have a variety of chinese noodles, this can be advantageous for those people who live in Pakistan and want to taste the chinese food but they can not visit the China. In the same manner, by importing food items from China can exchange the food tastament between the Paksitan and the China. At the end both country get good profit when the number of demands for these food items will be raised.

In contrast, selling the food products of a country in another country can lessen the cultural integrity of that country. As each country is famous and unique for its specific food, but when this food is easily available in every other country, this will loose the novelity of the nation that is producing this food product. This can be illustrated with the example of kinno, an orange type being produced by the Pakistan. But, these kinnos are exported to the other countries such as United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, China and India, as a result people buying these kinnos from that country do not know that its originally produced by Pakistan.

In conclusion, selling international food at the big stores of a country have beneficial aspects depicting it positve development with some negative results.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the positive and negative aspects of having access to international food in supermarkets, thereby forming a clear position. The introduction and conclusion clearly state the writer's stance that the development has both beneficial and harmful consequences. Ideas are presented and supported with examples, such as the mention of Chinese noodles in Pakistan and kinno exports. However, some arguments lack full extension and suffer from slight over-generalisation or mild confusion regarding the cultural and economic impacts, placing the performance comfortably within Band 6.0. The prompt is fully covered in terms of parts addressed, but depth of development keeps it at this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph-by-paragraph structure containing an introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In the present days', 'For example', 'In contrast', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally faulty or mechanical, as seen in awkward transitions and slight grammatical issues within transitional phrases like 'At the end both country get good profit'. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but overall progression can feel somewhat mechanical, justifying a Band 6.0 score.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'integrity', 'novelity' (novelty), and 'advantageous'. There are, however, noticeable lexical errors and inaccurate word choices throughout the text, including 'eatable products', 'food tastament', and spelling slips like 'positve'. Despite these inaccuracies and minor spelling errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main ideas without causing significant misunderstanding, matching the criteria for Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in articles, pluralisation, and verb forms, such as 'buy the food products from the different parts', 'who make them', 'by importing food items from China can exchange', and 'selling international food at the big stores... have beneficial aspects'. While these errors persist throughout the response, they rarely impede communication entirely, placing the grammatical performance at a solid Band 5.5 to 6.0.
