Student answer (Band 5.0)

A market is ranked and rated according to the variety and quality of products it provides. When a person desires of something and went to the market to get it, if he get to see a variety of such product he is pleased or sometimes the market is so dumb that it don't have that specific product which you are searching for. This essay will compare different aspects of markets which offer different varieties of different products and how the market got higher ratings than others.

People nowadays tend to go to such markets where variety of a product from all over the world or atleast from different parts of the world is brought for them. If they are searching for a specific product, they should get different version of such product so, they can choose the best according to their need. Just say for an example, a person went to a market to buy a cricket bat. He has a limited budget for it. The shopkeeper should show him all the versions, the one made locally or the one imported from some other countries and the one with a name tag of famous brand. After watching all the versions, he can compare all products and their worth to money, and the prices according to his budget, and finally can choose the best according to his need and affordability range.

So, in my opinion, bringing products from all over the world is a big step toward positive development, because it provides the customers with best services and products from all over the world, and even the local production is challeneged when it gets a competition. The local vendors tend to produce a better quality in cheaper prices, so, they can target more and more audience, and in this way the markets with more variety are ranked higher than other markets.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether the availability of global food produce in supermarkets is a positive development. The writer takes a clear position in the final paragraph, stating it is a 'positive development' because it benefits consumers and challenges local producers. However, the development of ideas is hampered by the strange introduction and body paragraph example. The first paragraph discusses markets in general rather than focusing specifically on the global food supply prompt, and the example used in the second paragraph is about buying a cricket bat rather than supermarket food produce. While the writer eventually connects this to competition and pricing in the conclusion, the irrelevance of the sports equipment example prevents the score from reaching a higher band. Overall, the task is addressed partially, aligning with the Band 5 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into three paragraphs, including an introduction, a body paragraph, and a conclusion. There is some attempt at logical organisation, but the overall progression is disrupted by abrupt shifts in topic. For instance, transitioning from a general discussion of market ratings in the introduction to a specific example about purchasing a cricket bat in the body paragraph feels disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Just say for an example', 'After watching all the versions', and 'So, in my opinion', but these tend to be somewhat mechanical or overly conversational ('Just say for an example'). Paragraphing is present, but the internal cohesion of the arguments is frequently faulty. This performance fits the Band 5 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'imported', 'affordability range', and 'competition'. However, there are numerous lexical and collocational errors throughout the text. Examples include 'desires of something' instead of 'desires something', 'if he get to see' instead of 'if he gets to see', 'market is so dumb', and 'worth to money' instead of 'value for money'. There are also spelling errors such as 'challeneged'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic meaning, the noticeable errors and inappropriate word choices place this response firmly in the Band 5 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and relative clauses. However, control over grammar is weak, with frequent errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Issues include subject-verb agreement errors ('the market is so dumb that it don't have'), tense shifts ('When a person desires of something and went'), and awkward phrasing ('if he get to see a variety of such product he is pleased'). Punctuation is also problematic, notably in run-on sentences like 'After watching all the versions, he can compare all products and their worth to money, and the prices according to his budget, and finally can choose the best according to his need and affordability range.' These frequent grammatical and punctuation errors reflect Band 5 performance.
