Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays consumers can go to a supermarket and buy food that has been produced all over the world, in many countries.

In my opinion it is a positive development as it help to expand the market and also help to minimize shortages.

Globalization has led to international trade which create opportunies for international markets. International trades help many busineses to find their own market as we know not all products are popular in one country. For instance, someone producing rice might not get enough profit in his home country as demand is less, but if he/she tries to sell his goods in another country where supply is less and demand is high then he/she will likely get enormous profits and also find perfect market for their goods. Likewise a farmer in india does not get enough profit as demand for goods is less, so if that farmer sells his goods in another country where agriculture is not strong then the farmer will earn more profit.

Similarly, with the help of international trade we can also counter shortages in a country. Not every things goes the way we planed so if a sudden drought hit a country then it will lack food sources and international trades will be the only hope for the country in this situation. For instance, a country had accidents in farmland and the shortage of crops completely ruined the agriculture of the country but with the help of international trades crops and necessary goods can be imported and it can also be regulated by the goverment to protect local businesses.

In conclusion, International trade is the best way for us to develop and provide help to other nations. Therefore, I believe it is a positive development for all the country as it can be regulated according to country needs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by clearly stating a position that the availability of global food in supermarkets is a positive development. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the discussion on international trade and how it helps farmers find profitable markets and counter shortages caused by droughts. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise in parts, such as broad claims regarding 'all products' and how international trade is always readily available. The arguments are generally relevant and well-developed, earning a solid Band 6.5 to 7.0 for this criterion. Because the ideas are clearly presented and supported with specific scenarios, a score of 7.0 is well justified.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response features a clear overall progression with a recognizable introduction, two body paragraphs supporting the main stance, and a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'Similarly', and 'In conclusion' are used to connect ideas, though some referencing and transitions feel slightly repetitive or mechanical, which is characteristic of Band 6. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments (market expansion versus shortage mitigation). While the logical organization is generally clear throughout, occasional awkward phrasing in transitions prevents the text from achieving a higher band score. Therefore, a Band 6.0 appropriately reflects the cohesion and coherence demonstrated here.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'globalization', 'international trade', 'shortages', and 'regulated'. There are, however, several lexical errors and instances of awkward word choice, such as 'busineses' (spelling), 'opportunies' (spelling), 'planed' (spelling), and phrasing like 'perfect market for their goods'. Less common items are attempted with varying degrees of success, and spelling mistakes are noticeable. Despite these errors, communication is never impeded, as the meaning remains clear throughout the essay. This performance fits comfortably within the Band 6 descriptor for Lexical Resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating the ability to construct conditional-style statements and relative clauses, such as 'if he/she tries to sell his goods in another country where supply is less and demand is high'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('as it help', 'Not every things goes'), article usage, and punctuation. Pronoun referencing ('he/she') is occasionally repetitive and clunky. Although these errors are noticeable and persist throughout the text, they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the argument without difficulty. This balance of mixed structures and frequent minor errors corresponds to a Band 6.0.
