Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many business believe that consumer is the king and its their responsiblity to provide all the things the wish. Nowadays, consumers can go to supermarket and buy food produced all over the world, which i believe is a positive development.

The most concerning and challenging part which has now becomming a trend is to satisfying the needs and wants of the consumers. After globalisation people around the world can consume everything that they wish. It is good for buyer as well as seller both, as user gets the exposure of different foods around the world and seller earns form it. For instance, many South Asian countries supply mangos in different contries of Europe where mango farming is difficult. Since, they get the exposire of the taste of mango and they also recieve the health benifits comprises in it.

Furthermore, there is a strong reason to believe that fullfilling the needs and wants of the customer around the world will also enhance the deplomatic ties between the countries. Consumers around the world always demands for the different taste and once an business meets that demand, it will automatically flurish in the market. For example, farmer supply a specific type of chilli produced in India to the American company to produce the jolo chip which is very famous around the world.

In conclusion, as customer get exposure of the food produced around the world they always wish to get more better taste and as the demand increases companies around the world get more oppourtunity to flurish and earns profits.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position that the availability of global food in supermarkets is a positive development. The writer provides relevant ideas, such as exposure to different cuisines, economic benefits for both buyers and sellers, and the enhancement of diplomatic and trade ties between nations, exemplified by South Asian mangoes and Indian chillies. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed or general, and there are occasional logical leaps, such as linking food exports directly to diplomatic ties without extensive elaboration. These limitations place the performance at Band 6.0, as all parts of the task are addressed with relevant main ideas, but the support and extension lack the depth required for higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as economic benefits and trade ties. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty and mechanical, with abrupt transitions and referencing that is not always clear, as seen in phrases like 'Since, they get the exposire...' and 'there is a strong reason to believe'. Logical progression between sentences occasionally falters, requiring the reader to work harder to follow the argument. These features align closely with the Band 6 descriptor, where cohesion can be faulty and referencing can occasionally lack clarity.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student attempts less common vocabulary, such as 'globalisation', 'exposure', 'diplomatic ties', and 'flourish', demonstrating an adequate range for the task. However, there are frequent spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the overall impression, including 'responsiblity', 'becomming', 'satisfying' instead of 'satisfy', 'exposire', 'recieve', 'benifits comprises', 'fullfilling', 'deplomatic', and 'oppourtunity'. Although these errors do not seriously impede communication, their frequency prevents the essay from achieving a Band 7.0, making Band 6.0 the most appropriate reflection of the student's lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are numerous errors in subject-verb agreement and word forms, such as 'Many business believe', 'consumer is the king and its their responsiblity', 'user gets the exposure', and 'as customer get exposure'. Punctuation and article usage also show frequent lapses. While these errors rarely impede overall communication, they disrupt the flow and indicate that error-free sentences are not in the majority, which is a key requirement for Band 7.0. Therefore, a Band 5.5 is awarded.
