Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, containing only 175 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is limited and incomplete. While the student attempts to present a position that the globalization of food is a positive development for national wealth and cultural exchange, the ideas are under-developed and lack sufficient support or specific examples. The mention of increasing GDP and cultural bonding is superficial, and the third paragraph cuts off abruptly. Therefore, the response can only partially address the task requirements due to severe under-length constraints, pulling the score down to Band 4.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response shows some basic organizational structure with an introduction and body paragraphs starting with transitional phrases such as 'To commence with' and 'On the other hand'. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by run-on sentences and a lack of clear punctuation, particularly in sentences like 'and that build bond with countries they start to visit each others countries making good friends'. Paragraphing is also disrupted, with the final paragraph starting abruptly. Cohesive devices are repetitive or inadequately applied, leading to choppy and confusing transitions between clauses.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with several spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally strain comprehension, such as 'barries' instead of barriers, 'increse' instead of increase, and 'infrasturucture'. While the writer attempts some less common terms like 'globalization' implied through 'export and import', and 'GDP', the range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. Collocations are frequently unnatural, such as 'countries wealth' instead of national wealth, and 'making good relation'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The essay relies heavily on a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but it suffers from severe run-on sentences and comma splices, such as 'These days export and import of food across the nations are very common it helps letting people choose...'. Grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, article use, and prepositional phrases. Punctuation is largely neglected, resulting in long, breathless sentences that lack proper terminal punctuation. These errors cause difficulty for the reader in parsing the intended meaning.
