Student answer (Band 5.0)

In this globalized world, there has been a significant development towards prosperity of human beings. Today's people can get whatever they want according to their requirements. conversely, in order to deal with, they must be an earning individuals. consumers have been facilitated by supermarket rather than local shops because supermarket provide huge variety of foods produced all over the world.

My concern regarding the availability of varieties foods in supermarket is negative development. Firstly, it develops the habit of spending unnecessary money on different items which is not used by them after purchasing or they throw it after bad taste. Most importantly, supermarket are designed in specific way for consumers to purchase more items. For example: the trawley provided by staff encourages them to purchase more and pay more which indirectly hamper consumer to fulfill their needs in other aspects.

Secondly, most of food items which are available in super market are chronic to obesity, and illness occurring from time to time. While preparing these kind of food items, various chemicals are added to increase the flavour and thereby attracts small childrens. So in order to prevent this negative development countries must establish strong policies for food testing and then making them available to customers. The imported goods must be tested accordingly, for welfare of people.

In conclusion, I believe that the development of supermarkets can push more into several negative consequences for country's individual as whole. Therefore, individuals should be educated regarding supermarket strategies and one must adopt the food from own garden or from a nearby farm.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear negative stance on the availability of global food products in supermarkets, attributing it to unnecessary spending and health concerns. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas lacks depth in places. For instance, the link between global food availability in supermarkets and obesity is asserted rather than fully explained, and the connection between supermarket trolleys and unnecessary spending is somewhat superficial. While all parts of the prompt are addressed, the arguments would benefit from greater elaboration and more robust supporting examples. Therefore, this performance aligns closely with Band 6 descriptors for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into four paragraphs with a clear introduction and conclusion. Logical links are attempted using transition words such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion'. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, as seen in the phrase 'conversely, in order to deal with, they must be an earning individuals', which disrupts the flow of the introduction. Paragraphing is generally appropriate, but the internal progression within body paragraphs occasionally lacks smoothness due to abrupt shifts in ideas and awkward referencing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey basic arguments about consumer habits and health. There are attempts at less common lexical items such as 'globalized', 'unnecessary', and 'chronic', but these are accompanied by noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'chronic to obesity' instead of 'prone to obesity' or 'linked to obesity', and 'varieties foods'. Spelling and word formation errors, such as 'childrens' and 'trawley', occur, which places this response securely at Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and relative clauses. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors that occasionally impede understanding. Examples include 'Today's people can get', 'different items which is not used', 'supermarket are designed', and 'hamper consumer to fulfill'. Punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent. Because errors are frequent in complex structures and cause some difficulty for the reader, a score of 5.0 is appropriate.
