Student answer (Band 5.5)

Humans have curiosity to taste all kinds of food. To quench this thirst, people have established trade routes connecting the globe. The item manufactured in a region can be brought and sold in other regions. In numerous states presently, buyers can visit the mall and purchase edibles made across the globe. In my opinion, this is a very rewarding progress. I will elaborate my stance in the upcoming discussion.

The variety of meals that can be bought from the food market have multiple advantages. To begin with, every region has immigrants and they love to get a taste of their indigenous meals. The diversity of market enables them to enjoy this oppurtunity. For example, we had nepali students in our university who used to buy their own food from the local market. In addition to this, when the market opens itself to international brands it can help to regulate the prices and quality of local market. To cite an example, KFC has influcened the standard and prices of Pakistani local brands. Futhermore, the famous dishes or fruits of various regions have proven to strengthen the bonds between different nations. The best example would be the 'Mango Diplomacy', in which our leaders gave mangoes as a gift to encourage the diplomatic ties.

Some people have conflicting views about this development. Business owners believe that opening the local market to international competition have impacted negatively. It is hard to keep up with the variety of range in terms of inventory and port regulations can cause serious delays in the estimated time of arrival of products.

Overall, Buyers can enjoy a range of foods that is prepared in a distant region as it will be available in the local shop. The advantages are that, it will serve the immigrants, regulate the standards and costs and strengthen the relations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, stating that the availability of global food is a very rewarding progress. The main ideas are relevant, such as helping immigrants feel at home, regulating local market prices, and fostering international relations through diplomatic gestures like 'Mango Diplomacy'. However, some ideas lack full extension and development, particularly the counter-argument paragraph regarding business owners, which remains slightly brief and superficial. Overall, the task is handled adequately, earning a solid Band 6.0 in line with the descriptors for presenting relevant ideas with some under-development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different arguments. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For instance, transitional phrases like 'To begin with', 'In addition to this', and 'Futhermore' are utilised, but referencing and logical flow between certain sentences feel slightly disjointed. The counter-argument paragraph stands alone but lacks a clear cohesive link to the preceding paragraphs. Furthermore, minor cohesion issues and repetitive phrasing occur, keeping the response at a Band 6.0 for logical progression and cohesion management.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'indigenous meals', 'diplomatic ties', and 'inventory'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('oppurtunity', 'influcened', 'Futhermore') and occasional awkward word choices or collocations, such as 'very rewarding progress' instead of 'positive development' or 'positive trend'. While these lexical inaccuracies do not impede communication, they restrict the score to Band 6.0, as the vocabulary range is sufficient for the task but contains errors in spelling and word choice.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'When the market opens itself to international brands it can help to regulate the prices...' There are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'The variety of meals that can be bought from the food market have', where the plural verb incorrectly follows 'variety'. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the argument without difficulty. This balance of mixed structures and occasional non-systematic errors places the performance firmly at Band 6.0.
