Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this era supermarkets are selling a varieties of fruits and vegetables all over the world. I argued that it is very common to sell exotic fruits and vegetables, i believe that it is positive but there are some drawbacks.

To begin with, there are lot of reasons of selling a wide choices of fruits and vegetables which are not native to this country. Due to global trade the varieties of fruits and vegetables are available in supermarket. In addition to this we can try different cuisines in any part of world because alla the ingredients are availabe in supermarket. For instance the Pakistani mango are famous all over the world which are availabe in supermarket because pakistan are exporting and earn great revenue by the farmer. The immigrant are doing cultural experience by trying these things. As the every things have different nutrition profile which are availabe in markets.

On the other hands, it is also cause environmental pollution because it is exported to international market with the help of airplane which burning fuel and release carbon dioxide into the air which cause global warming. Moreover it is affect the local farmer as they do not get profit by cutivating fruit and vegetables. In addition to this fruits and vegetables are expensive as compared to native things.

In conclusions, supermarkets provide wide variety of exotic fruits and vegetables which is very beneficial for the global market. I believe that it is very beneficial because person can experience their culture there are negative effects such as environemental pollution and afffect local farmer earning.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting arguments for both sides before giving an opinion on whether global supermarket food is a positive or negative development. The writer states a position right at the beginning ('i believe that it is positive but there are some drawbacks') and maintains it through the conclusion. However, the ideas are somewhat under-developed and lack extension. For example, the mention of environmental pollution and the impact on local farmers in the third paragraph is brief and supported by very simple examples. To achieve a higher band, the points regarding trade, culture, and pollution need deeper explanation and specific elaboration rather than brief lists. Nevertheless, the main task requirements are met with a clear, relevant overview.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay has a basic structure with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing both sides, and a conclusion, which shows an overall arrangement. However, the progression is sometimes hindered by awkward transitions and repetitive sentence starters like 'In addition to this'. Cohesive devices are used, but they are frequently mechanical and formulaic. Paragraphing is attempted, though the division of ideas could be more logical; for example, grouping the cultural and nutritional benefits more cohesively. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'As the every things have different nutrition profile which are availabe in markets', which breaks the logical flow of ideas. Overall coherence is maintained, but cohesion requires more flexibility and better management to reach a higher band.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic ideas about global trade, supermarkets, and environmental pollution. Words like 'supermarket', 'exotic fruits', 'global trade', and 'environmental pollution' show an appropriate topic-specific range. However, there are frequent lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'I argued that' instead of 'I argue that', 'a varieties' instead of 'a variety', 'alla' for 'all', and 'cutivating' for 'cultivating'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success, and spelling or word-form inaccuracies are noticeable throughout the text. The lexical range is minimally adequate to convey the intended message.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate clauses (e.g., 'fruits and vegetables which are not native to this country'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('pakistan are exporting', 'the every things have', 'it is affect'), articles ('the Pakistani mango', 'the immigrant'), and tense consistency. Run-on sentences and punctuation slips also occur, such as in the concluding paragraph where multiple clauses are joined without adequate punctuation or conjunctions. While communication is not entirely impeded, the high frequency of grammatical errors places this text firmly in the Band 5 category.
