Student answer (Band 5.5)
Being able to enjoy variety of food at the supermarket, is a very positive development in today's world. It brings alot of benefits both for consumers and producers.
Previously, people had to go to different locations to buy groceries but now, they have to go to one location only and can get everything at a good price.Consumers now just have to go to one place to get the fresh, reasonable food. With the development, people mindset is also changing they prefer fresh fruits and vegetables which they can get easily at supermarket. As people have observed that packed food has less nutrients and is considered less healthy, they are having a mindset shift.
Another major benefit is they can enjoy different varities of food, as any specific food might not be available in their own country but they can still enjoy it now.For example many international students are living away from home, sometimes they do miss their own cultural food. They can easily get any type of ingredient from supermarket and made their desire dish.
The world has become a global village, now we can get everything easily. In past, if a specific region get out of the food supplies it was considered a major issue but now countries have developed a major exchange systems.Even though, they are at shortage of potato or onion in any season, they can simple buy it from neighbouring country and meet the demands of their population.
In conclusion, i can firmly stand by my opinion that it is defintiely a positive development. It had made everything so easy and accessible for people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt directly by taking a clear and consistent position that the availability of global food in supermarkets is a positive development. The writer successfully identifies several key benefits, such as convenience, variety, and international trade stability, supporting these points with relevant explanations and examples like international students missing home and seasonal food shortages. However, some arguments lack deeper extension; for instance, the explanation regarding the mindset shift toward fresh food could be elaborated further. Overall, the ideas are sufficiently developed to meet the criteria for Band 6.5, leaning towards Band 7 for covering all parts of the task with a well-maintained viewpoint throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct ideas, such as convenience, variety, and global trade. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For instance, transitional phrases are occasionally missing or misused, as seen in sentences like 'With the development, people mindset is also changing...' and 'In past...'. Reference words are occasionally unclear or repetitive, and punctuation around linking elements needs refinement. These mechanical cohesion issues place the response firmly in the Band 6 category, as the overarching logic is clear despite the local cohesion flaws.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their ideas about supermarkets, consumers, and global trade. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'global village', 'exchange systems', and 'mindset shift', which demonstrate an acceptable range. Nevertheless, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, including 'variety of food' (missing article), 'reasonable food', 'made their desire dish' (grammatical form error), and spelling/capitalisation slips like 'defintiely'. Because these inaccuracies do not impede overall communication and the range is sufficient to discuss the topic, a score of 6.0 is well justified.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure through conditional-like contexts and relative clauses (e.g., 'which they can get easily at supermarket', 'as any specific food might not be available'). However, there is a recurring presence of grammatical and punctuation errors, including missing articles ('go to supermarket', 'at shortage'), subject-verb agreement issues ('people mindset', 'specific region get'), and tense inconsistencies ('In past, if a specific region get...'). Punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after periods and incorrect comma splices ('today's world. It brings...'), also occur. Since these errors do not impede communication, the performance aligns with Band 6.
