Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding the positive and negative developments of consuming globally produced food, but the ideas are underdeveloped and lack clarity. The student mentions both benefits, such as fulfilling basic food needs when local crops fail, and drawbacks, such as environmental pollution. However, the reasoning is frequently convoluted and difficult to follow, as seen in sentences like 'Imported food are beneficial to our counrty, which persons used their local food as their top flavoured food in the world.' Additionally, the word count requirement of 250 words is not met, as the response contains only 245 words, which incurs a penalty under Task Achievement. Consequently, the score reflects a partial address of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The organisational structure of the essay is very weak. While paragraphing is attempted, the division is illogical, and the second paragraph becomes a dense block of loosely connected ideas. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as 'In this way the production of crops is dercrease' and 'Then our imported items are important'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it hard to follow the progression of arguments. Transitions between contrasting points, such as the shift from the advantages of imports to environmental disadvantages, lack smooth logical signposting, resulting in an incoherent overall arrangement.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic and heavily repetitive, with noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text (e.g., 'counrty', 'expansive' instead of expensive, 'vegatables', 'dercrease', 'requriement', 'thyiod'). The student attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'transportation' and 'environmental problems', but these are often combined with inappropriate collocations or grammatical errors (e.g., 'dirty the environment'). The range of vocabulary is limited to everyday words, and errors in spelling and word formation frequently strain the reader's understanding.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The grammatical structures are limited and prone to frequent errors. The text contains numerous basic errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Imported food are', 'imported items has'), incorrect word forms ('persons used'), and tense misuse. Complex sentences are rarely attempted successfully, and when they are, they contain severe structural flaws and punctuation issues. Frequent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and distort the meaning of several sentences throughout the response.
