Student answer (Band 4.5)

Consumers in other countries they far away from there country . They face many difficulties in there life because in there country they live with their family. There family support him in all over matter. But in other counry, they feel alone . For there life they work in other country for they earn some money .

They work in there department day and night . They face many hurdles at the time of working. After the time of there job , they face also many hurdles . They wash there dirty clothes and they also bathing. So the time is not available to make food in there home.

So they go to a super market and buy produced food . So the time of the making food time is saved. They spend there minimum time in eating food for save there much time . After the eating, they go to there home and kept sleeping because if they do not complete there sleeping time so they do not gave proper foces in there work.

So, the buying produced food is very benefitial for saved there time because if they make do not buy food produced.First, they go to vegetable shops. They buy some vegetable .Some time they spend there. After this they go home and make food for eating so there time is wasting.

I thought it is good way to save thre time in other countries buit there is not a benefitial for there health. Because produced food is made dirty oil so they gave side effects to our health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the benefits and drawbacks of consuming global supermarket food, though the main argument shifts significantly toward the personal struggles of migrant workers rather than focusing strictly on global food supply chains. The writer presents a clear position towards the end, stating that buying produced food saves time but can negatively impact health due to preparation methods. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive, with excessive focus on domestic chores and sleep schedules rather than exploring the broader economic, environmental, or cultural implications of imported food. This places the response in Band 5, as the ideas are under-developed and the main topic is partially misinterpreted through a very narrow personal lens.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The text suffers from significant cohesion and paragraphing issues. While the writer attempts to sequence ideas logically—moving from migrant life to time-saving food shopping, and finally to health impacts—the overall progression is disjointed. Paragraphing is weak, with short, fragmented sentences that lack smooth transitions. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, relying heavily on repetitive sentence starters such as 'So', 'They', and 'After this'. Pronoun referencing is frequently unclear, particularly with words like 'their', 'there', and 'they', making it difficult to track who or what is being referred to. For example, phrases like 'For there life they work in other country for they earn some money' display mechanical and faulty cohesion. This meets the criteria for Band 4.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic, highly repetitive, and heavily restricted. The student frequently misuses common words and confuses homophones or similarly spelled words, such as confusing 'there', 'their', and 'they're', as well as 'foces' for focus, 'benefitial' for beneficial, and 'buit' for but. There is an absence of less common lexical items, and collocations are unnatural, such as 'produced food', 'make food', and 'completed their sleeping time'. While the vocabulary is just about sufficient to convey the basic narrative about saving time and buying convenience foods, the persistent errors in word choice and spelling cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and strain comprehension, corresponding to a Band 4 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited. The writer relies heavily on simple sentence structures that are frequently marred by basic structural errors, incorrect verb tenses, and missing prepositions. Complex sentences are rarely attempted, and when they do appear—such as in conditional or concessive clauses like 'because if they do not complete their sleeping time so they do not gave proper focus'—they are ungrammatical and faulty. Errors are pervasive throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('family support him'), incorrect auxiliary usage, and severe punctuation slips. Because errors are frequent and often distort the intended meaning, the performance aligns with Band 4 descriptors.
