Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, it become a quite popular trend, that individuals wamt to try and eat different kind of food product from all over the world and the best place where all world food products can be find is supermarket. I personally think the intervention of supermarket is really good and it is a positive development, the reason for my point of view is explained in further ensuing paragraph with relevant example.

The best thing about supermarket is that variety of food product from all over the world can be find in one place, for instance : person who love thailand cuisine does not have to travelled all over the world to eat their favourite food, instead they can buy same quality of food from their nearest supermart. Moreover, food also represent country culture and peopled and as a person who really fond of trying or knowing different cultural things can buy any particular food product from the supermarket.

The another best thing regarding supermarket is that various varieties of food product can be available under one roof, so it really save a lot of effort and time of every citizen, for example : milk products can be purchased from dairy, vegetable from farmer market, grains from local provisional store, etc as with the help of supermarket various kind of product can be avail from one stop only, it indirectly save lot of time and travelling cost. Additionally, supermarket helps to fulfill the cravings of individual, who really want to eat any particular kind of food products that he/she saw on internet.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position that the availability of global food in supermarkets is a positive development. Ideas are presented, such as saving time and being able to experience different cultures, and supported with relevant examples like Thai cuisine and milk products. However, the development of ideas tends to be repetitive, with several sentences circling back to the same point about having everything 'under one roof'. While all parts of the prompt are addressed, the depth of argumentation remains somewhat superficial and ideas are occasionally over-generalized. This places the performance firmly at Band 6, as the task is addressed with relevant ideas, but some points lack the fully extended development seen at higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a discernible overall structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, indicating a coherent framework. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. For instance, the transition 'The another best thing' contains a grammatical error, and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the pronoun use in the phrase 'peopled and as a person who really fond of'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the body paragraphs contain run-on sentences and lack smooth logical transitions between ideas. Cohesive devices are either repetitive or misused. These issues prevent the essay from achieving a Band 6.5 or 7, aligning it more closely with the Band 5 descriptor where organisation is present, but progression and cohesion show noticeable weaknesses.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts and food-related terms like 'supermarket', 'cuisine', 'dairy', and 'grains'. However, there are numerous lexical and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'wamt' instead of 'want', 'kind' instead of 'kinds', 'thailand' instead of 'Thai', 'travelled' instead of 'travel', and 'supermart'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'intervention', 'ensuing', and 'cultural things', are often awkward or inaccurate in collocation. Because these errors occur frequently but rarely impede overall communication, the vocabulary profile fits the Band 5 descriptor well, demonstrating a limited but minimally adequate range with noticeable word-choice and spelling errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though complex structures are frequently marred by errors. For example, the opening sentence 'Nowadays, it become a quite popular trend, that individuals wamt to try...' exhibits severe tense and punctuation errors. Other grammatical issues include subject-verb agreement errors ('food product ... can be find') and awkward clause structures. While simple sentences are generally understood, the high frequency of grammatical errors in more ambitious structures causes noticeable difficulty for the reader at times. This performance corresponds to Band 5, characterised by a limited range of structures and frequent errors that impact readability.
