Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only partially. While the writer manages to state a clear position that buying global food is a positive development, the ideas presented remain quite limited and under-developed. For instance, the argument regarding boosting the economy through importing vegetables lacks clear explanation and real support. Similarly, the example of avocados in Canada is confusingly expressed and does not logically connect to the main point. Furthermore, the second body paragraph drifts into discussing the benefits of travelling to other countries and visiting Kashmir for apples, which loses focus on the core topic of supermarket food produced worldwide. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to present fully developed, highly relevant ideas with appropriate examples that consistently address the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation visible through the use of basic transition markers such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'In Conclusion', and the response is divided into paragraphs. However, there is no clear overall progression throughout the essay. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the repetitive use of 'This point is substantiated by the fact that' and awkward referencing like 'whenever people visit to a different countries like, Italy, America, China and other, they talk to numerous people'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal logical links within paragraphs break down, making the overall arrangement somewhat disjointed. To achieve a higher score, the writer must ensure a logical flow of ideas and use cohesive devices more accurately and naturally without over-relying on formulaic phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey a basic message. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'globalisation', 'fundamental reasons', and 'productivity', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form. Examples include 'boast economy' instead of 'boost the economy', 'sells this things' (grammar and lexical slip), 'emeneinent' (eminent/prominent), and 'vegatables'. Spelling errors and incorrect word forms occur with some frequency, causing occasional difficulty for the reader. To improve lexical resource, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range, pay closer attention to natural collocations, and work on accurate spelling and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple and flawed complex sentences. Attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, leading to frequent errors that cause difficulty for the reader. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement, articles, plurals, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns. Examples of these errors include 'due to globalisation people can easily move from one place to other', 'a number new vegetables', 'carry alot apples which helps to individuals maintain', and unnecessary prepositions like 'whenever people visit to a different countries'. Punctuation is also erratic, particularly around introductory clauses and examples. To progress, the writer must practise forming accurate complex sentences and eliminate frequent basic grammatical errors.
