Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially by presenting a position and offering some relevant ideas, such as the convenience of having everything in one place and the benefits of international trade for farmers and the economy. However, the development of these ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. For instance, the point about buying Italian food and Chinese rice is repeated in the conclusion without adding new depth. Furthermore, the reasoning tends to be generalised and lacks specific, well-supported examples. While the writer clearly leans toward a positive view, the exploration of ideas remains at a surface level, preventing a fully developed discussion of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation evident in the division of paragraphs, with a discernible introduction, body paragraphs addressing different aspects, and a conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas throughout the text. Cohesive devices are used in a basic or mechanical way, such as 'First of all', 'On the other side', and 'In the conclusion'. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'tasting their food shows their culture food and taste' where pronoun and noun references become tangled, making the flow somewhat disjointed and repetitive.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message of the essay. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and collocation, such as 'indiviuals', 'forigen', 'choclates', and 'culture food'. The writer attempts to use some less common words like 'advantageous' and 'economic condition', but inaccuracies in spelling and phrasing cause some difficulty for the reader and reveal a lack of precise lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The text displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences and basic coordination. Attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, featuring frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, tenses, article usage, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns, such as 'it is the positive development', 'without going to abroad', and 'citizens also familiar their lifestyle'. These frequent errors can cause difficulty and strain for the reader, keeping the control of grammar at a basic level.
