Student answer (Band 5.0)

Now a days in many countries consumers can buy food that produced all over the world from supermarket. In my opinion this is a positive development.

All type of foods may not produce in one country. Supermarket is the medium where consumer can buy their desired foods. For example, a country produces fishes while another country cannot produce. As a result, consumers from that another country still get fishes with the help of supermarket.

Supermarket may also have a indirect impact on economy. A country can improve their economical structure by importing foods all over the world. For example, a country may produce extra foods , they can import that to other country. Therefore that country can get a good amount of money which may beneficial in the economy.

In conclusion this is a very positive development. Consumers now can get their every desired foods in their own country. Countries may also involve in import export business with other countries all over the world.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task partially, taking a clear positive position on whether global food availability in supermarkets is positive. However, it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement, falling significantly short of the two hundred and fifty-word limit at only one hundred and sixty-four words. Ideas are limited and under-developed. For instance, the argument regarding the economy mentions that countries can 'import foods all over the world' and 'produce extra foods , they can import that to other country', which confuses exporting with importing and leaves the economic reasoning vague and repetitive. To reach higher bands, the response must expand well beyond the minimum length, ensure all economic and social arguments are fully supported with extended explanations and relevant examples, and avoid confusing core trade concepts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation evident through basic paragraphing and simple linking words such as 'For example' and 'In conclusion'. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the flow is hindered by repetitive phrasing and inadequate, mechanical cohesive devices. The second paragraph abruptly switches from the availability of fish to general food availability without smooth transitions, and the conclusion simply restates earlier sentences without adding synthesis. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as when pronouns like 'that' are used loosely. To improve cohesion, you should employ a wider range of referencing expressions and logical connectors that guide the reader smoothly from one well-developed point to the next, while ensuring each paragraph builds naturally upon the previous one.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, containing frequent noticeable errors that cause difficulty and confusion for the reader. There are issues with word choice, word form, and collocation, such as writing 'Now a days' instead of 'Nowadays', 'food that produced' instead of 'food that is produced', and confusing 'import' and 'export' in the economic argument ('a country may produce extra foods , they can import that to other country'). Additionally, repetition of basic words like 'foods', 'country', and 'supermarket' restricts the lexical score. To achieve a higher band, you must learn correct lexical collocations, accurately distinguish between economic terms like importing and exporting, expand your vocabulary range to include less common terms, and carefully check your spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic subject-verb patterns. Attempts at complex sentences are rare, and there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the response. Examples of grammatical inaccuracies include missing articles ('Supermarket is the medium', 'in economy'), incorrect verb forms ('All type of foods may not produce', 'consumers still get fishes'), faulty punctuation, and spacing errors around commas. These frequent errors cause strain for the reader. To improve your grammatical score, you need to practice constructing accurate complex sentences using subordinating clauses, maintain strict control over subject-verb agreement and pluralisation, ensure accurate article use, and eliminate basic mechanical mistakes.
