Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the 21st century, in various countries there are multiple availabilities of food, which are imported from the different parts of the world in the local grocery shops for customers. I would firmly believe that this is beneficial change. The various reasons for my viewpoint are discussed further along with relevant examples.

Several factors combine to ensure that consuming foreign food products is a beneficial practice. The primary reason for this claim is that this trend provides ecnomic growth to the businesses. This can be understood from a primary goal of a business owner, which is to sell as many product as possible and growing their business across the world so that large number of consumers purchase their goods. This trends will enhance the economical status of a business. To illustrate this, there are many beverage companies such as The Coco-Cola Company, Red Bull and Monstar Drinks, which promote their drinks across the world through heavy marketing. As a result, there are surge in annual profits. Therefore, it is more practical to business owners to export their goods across the world in order to increase financial growth of their company.

Furthermore, the access to a wider range of food products in local groceries shops is also one of the major advantages. This means that a consumer has more number of options to purchase a same type of food, which was not possible in the past. In other words, this removes the geographical limitations and provide more product choices to a customer. To illustrate this, there were many products in the past which were only present in specific location such as multiple flavors of Lays chips. Due to this, many customers did not get a chance to try various foreign flavours. However, at presently these products are available in many groceries shops. Hence, it is another significant benefit of accessibility of foreign products.

In conclusion, many people believe that choosing imported food over traditional one is a bad practice, and can have a negative outcomes. However, my believe is that it gives economic growth to the business owner's and range of choices to a consumer.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that the availability of global food is a beneficial development. The main ideas regarding economic growth for businesses and a wider variety of choices for consumers are relevant and presented clearly throughout the essay. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed rather than fully extended, which is characteristic of this level. For instance, the argument about economic growth is supported by examples of beverage companies, but the connection between importing food and business expansion could be explained with greater depth. The conclusion also briefly acknowledges a counter-argument about negative outcomes, which shows a balanced attempt to address the prompt fully. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to ensure all supporting arguments are thoroughly expanded with deeper explanations and more precise real-world examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, logical progression of ideas from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, focusing first on economic benefits and second on consumer choice. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'To illustrate this', and 'In conclusion' are employed to guide the reader through the text, although some referencing and transitional phrases feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the recurring use of 'To illustrate this'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. To achieve a higher band, the student should aim for more sophisticated and varied cohesive links, ensuring that relationships between sentences flow naturally without relying on formulaic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'geographical limitations', 'availability', and 'annual profits'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form that prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher standard. Examples of these slips include 'multiple availabilities of food' instead of 'wide availability of food', 'ecnomic' (spelling error), 'sell as many product' (pluralization error), 'Monstar Drinks' (spelling error), 'grocery shops' used inconsistently as 'groceries shops', and 'my believe' instead of 'my belief'. Furthermore, phrases like 'enhance the economical status' would be more natural as 'boost the economic performance'. These lexical errors and awkward collocations do not heavily impede communication, but they restrict the score to this band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as relative clauses and conditional-style reasoning. There are, however, several grammatical and punctuation errors present throughout the text. Issues include incorrect article usage and prepositions, such as 'imported from the different parts' instead of 'imported from different parts', 'to business owners' instead of 'for business owners', and 'at presently these products are available' instead of 'at present' or 'currently'. Subject-verb agreement and plural forms also show occasional lapses, such as 'This trends will enhance' and 'give economic growth to the business owner's'. Despite these errors, the sentences generally remain understandable and rarely impede overall communication. To improve, the writer needs greater control over complex sentence patterns and closer attention to articles and prepositions.
