Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, globalisation has trasformed the way people puches and consume the food. In many countries supermarket offer food product are produce in different part of the world. I believe that this is a positive development i will discuss this trend in upcoming paragraph and provide a logical conclusion.

To start with, there are many reasons associated with it. The first and foremost point is gives consumers great choice. To explain this, people can enjoy food from different culture without travelling abroad. Which can also increase their understanding of other traditions. For example, Indian supermarkets increasingly sell Italian pasta, Japenese sauces and Korean noodles, Allowing customers to experiment with internatinal cusines at home. Furthermore, imported food can provide acces to products locally. Because of climate or geographical limitations. For instance, tropical fruits such as avacado and certain berries can be avaliable in countries where the local climate is unsuitable for growing them.

On the other hand, this trend can also have negative consiquence for local farmers and the enviroment. Imported products may be cheaper because they are produce on a large scales, making difficult for small local farmers. Additionally, long distance require considerble amount of fuel and can increas carbon emission and leads to air pollution. For example, if fruits are transported from thousand of kilometers by air or refigrated truck, their overall enviormental may be considreble higher than that locally growing alternative. Nevertheless, these problems can be reduce hrough suitanble transporatation and by encourgeing consumers to purches local products where they are avaliable.

In conclusion, althought it gives consumers greate choice and promote trade and culture exchange. But also make difficultuies for local farmers or also put impact on enviorment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, acknowledging both positive and negative aspects of global food availability, thus establishing a clear position. The main ideas are generally relevant, such as consumer choice, cultural appreciation, economic pressure on local farmers, and environmental impacts. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For example, while the benefits of consumer choice and international cuisines are supported with clear examples like Indian supermarkets selling Italian pasta and Japanese sauces, the counterarguments regarding environmental consequences and local farmers are somewhat broad and rely on generalized statements rather than being thoroughly explored. The overview presented in the introduction is rather mechanical and outlines the structure rather than substantive arguments, which keeps the development at a moderate level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response achieves a coherent overall arrangement and presents a clear logical progression throughout the text. Information and ideas are divided into reasonably appropriate paragraphs, moving from an introduction to supporting arguments for the positive side, then exploring the counterarguments, and finishing with a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To start with', 'Furthermore', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are utilized to guide the reader through the text, although referencing and linking are occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition into the concluding paragraph feels abrupt and grammatically disjointed ('In conclusion, althought it gives... But also make...'), showing features of the next higher band while retaining some mechanical cohesiveness in the main body.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as 'geographical limitations', 'environmental impact', and 'cultural exchange'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the response that reflect a constrained control over lexical features. Examples include 'trasformed', 'puches', 'product are produce', 'avalialiable', 'consiquence', 'suitanble', 'encourgeing', 'greate', and 'difficultuies'. Although these errors do not seriously impede overall communication, they prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher standard of precision and fluency, keeping the lexical control firmly within a moderate range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied structures such as relative clauses ('where the local climate is unsuitable') and conditional logic. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('consumer choice', 'provide access to products locally'), incorrect verb forms ('are produce', 'is unsuitable'), punctuation errors (fragments like 'Which can also increase...', 'Because of climate...'), and awkward prepositional phrases ('from thousand of kilometers'). These persistent issues mean that error-free sentences are not consistently maintained, and the structural inaccuracies occasionally require the reader to slow down to interpret the intended meaning.
