Student answer (Band 5.5)

Customers in many countries over the world are now able to purchase varieties of foods manufactured acrossed the world from any local supermarket. From my perspective, this is a positive development.

As various type of foods produced all over the word are availble in local supermarket of many countries across the world, buyers are able to check the products from different regions along with the products from that country and buy one of them according to their prefernces. This provides a lot more flexibility than being able to buy only local foods. In this way, buyers are able to compare the price and quality of the product from different countries and can consume the one that is feasible for themselves. Furthermore, the market will be more competetive for the companies producing this foods locally. They will be conscious about about the quality of the product as well as the to keep the pricing lower to remain survive in the market.

On contarty to this, there are some negative side of this too. Due to the availability of the worldclass products, the local products can be avoided by some of the consumers as it could be that a group of people are biased towards international brands. This can hinders the growth or rise of any local company who wants to enter the market with locally produced products.

So, availablity of the international products in local supermarket has both positive and negative side in terms of development. It can hamper the growth of local business. But, it can actually makes the local market more competetive and allow the comsumers flexibility to choose based on their feasibility. So, from my perspective, it is a positive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that the availability of global food in supermarkets is a positive development. Relevant ideas are presented, such as consumer flexibility, price comparison, and the impact on local businesses. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the point regarding local markets becoming more competitive is introduced but remains somewhat general, lacking deeper extension or specific real-world examples. To reach a higher level, the writer would need to fully develop all supporting arguments with more comprehensive explanations and specific illustrations rather than relying on repetitive statements in the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance stated in the introduction and reiterated in the conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct points, such as the positive impacts and the counter-argument concerning local businesses. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or repetitive, relying heavily on basic transitional phrases like 'Furthermore' and 'On contarty to this'. Referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression between sentences occasionally feels repetitive, particularly in the final summary paragraphs. To progress further, the writer should employ a wider and more sophisticated variety of cohesive devices and ensure smoother transitions between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'flexibility', 'feasibility', and 'international brands'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'acrossed', 'prefernces', 'competetive', 'contarty', and 'availablity'. Additionally, awkward phrasing such as 'producing this foods' and 'makes the local market more competetive' detracts from precision. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they highlight the limitations in control over less common lexical items, keeping the vocabulary score at the current level. More careful proofreading and precision in word forms are necessary for advancement.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional clauses and relative clauses. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as article omissions and misuse ('As various type of foods... are availble', 'This can hinders the growth', 'to keep the pricing lower to remain survive'). Despite these errors, the sentence structures are generally understandable and rarely impede communication. The control over basic structures is reasonably sound, but frequent minor slips in agreement and prepositional use prevent the writing from achieving a higher level of grammatical accuracy and structural variety.
