Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is observed that, people are willing to purchase food at supermarkets which was produced at different places of the world. It was the mixed trend that creates both positive and negative effects.
I think that consuming food from supermarkets is postive development due to more choices, different tastes and global trade. Firstly, it has more choices beause different people have different opinions on choosing the speices, fruits and vegetables. Secondly, it creates unique tastes like using black pepper instead of chillies or adding onions to make more sweeter. Finally, it implements the global trade like importing or exporting goods. Where it also creates the job oppurtunities for new people.
It creates negative development due to higher pollution, not encouraging local farms. The import and export consumes more fuel and causes more congestion when loading the goods. For instance, the importing and exporting causes more fossil fuels and traffic while loading the goods at the retail section. The another reason would be not encouraging the local farms, where this leads to low quality on the local farms. For example, by import all goods and food from other countries, where tourists or non-locals think that there is low quality products in this country so they are importing from others.
In conclusion, people are buying foods which are produced aroud the world. Where it creates both postive and negative impact on the public: postive imapct by different tastes, more choices and global trading; negative because importing and exporting causes higher pollution and not encouraging the local farms.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the positive and negative aspects of consuming food produced globally, and a clear, albeit basic, position is established. However, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on local farms and environmental pollution lacks sufficient depth and relies on repetitive examples, such as 'importing and exporting causes more fossil fuels and traffic while loading the goods at the retail section.' While the main arguments are identifiable, they require further extension and supporting detail with specific explanations rather than generalised statements to reach a higher level of task response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the essay into an introduction, body paragraphs addressing both sides of the issue, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct points of view. Nevertheless, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and repetitive, particularly with connective devices like 'Firstly,' 'Secondly,' and 'Finally,' which feel formulaic. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally unclear or confusing, as seen in sentences starting with 'Where it also creates...' or 'Where it creates both positive and negative impact,' which disrupts the natural flow and logical progression between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey basic concepts related to supermarkets, global trade, and pollution. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, such as 'postive' instead of positive, 'speices' instead of species, 'oppurtunities' instead of opportunities, and 'aroud' instead of around. Additionally, inappropriate collocations or awkward phrases appear, such as 'making more sweeter' and 'by import all goods.' These lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips cause some strain for the reader and reflect a restricted range of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few faulty attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors involving article usage, verb forms, and prepositional patterns, such as 'It was the mixed trend,' 'not encouraging the local farms,' and 'by import all goods.' These frequent errors, combined with punctuation and structural issues like sentence fragments starting with 'Where,' often cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to increase sentence variety and exercise better control over basic grammatical agreements and tense consistency.
